Foreign (by this I mean not American) fighters have to go to America and fight away from home, against predominantly American crowds and, sometimes, bias judging (see Lewis vs Holyfield 1).

It takes incredible balls to keep going in to the lion's den and doing the business.

That's what Lewis did his whole career.

Imagine Floyd Mayweather going over to Europe every time he fought. A tougher proposition don't ya think?
Yep its amazing the only thing some people focus on about Lennox Lewis is that he didnt give Vitali a rematch when he was pushing 40 years old.

THis is what I remember from the fight
I remember Lewis huge right opening that cut over Vits eye
then I remember Lewis getting schooled and out classed
I remember Lewis getting wobbled on more than one occassion
I remember Vits clearly wining the fight
remember guys you cant win a fight based on one punch except if its a KO punch and the guy doesnt get up

      on a side note
those that say that the klits are all time greats and there are a few
I have to disagree however if they are on that list then Lennox is on that list too and ranked alot higher

lets not forget Lewis did fight a past prime Tyson
not because tyson was ducking him like some foolish poster mentioned but because Iron Mike is a convicted Rapist and was behind bars

Foreman was past 40 and he beat a prime champ in Michael Moore
Lewis was good and I didnt apprecitate him until after he retired but you guys are putting him up there with the greats and that is just laughable

Tyson avoided Lennox like the plague after his release.

            37 isn't pushing 40.

Lennox is pretty safe without you guys exaggerating, trust me.

Incredible that we're debating Lewis' last fight of his career (which he won!), when he was in his late 30's!

That people use THAT as their best argument against Lewis being the greatest of his generation highlights just how great the guy was.

Most heavyweights got beat up towards the end of their careers. Not Lewis. The guy was pushing 40 and still fighting the top guys. After Tyson, he really didn't need to go on.

Lewis is one of my all-time favorites. One of the greatest heavyweights ever. Unfortunately, he should be way higher on the ATG list. Many claim that his style was boring and too cautious. He was a safety first fighter, but he knocked the hell out of most of his challengers.

Even as young teenager, I never got bored of his style. I loved how he always had a game plan, but when opportunity presented itself, he would put his opponents to sleep.

The only thing that bugs me is that he didn't give Vitali the rematch. I thought he solved Vitali's style late in their first fight and he probably would have been much easier work in a rematch. That being said, he did retire as the undisputed champ and had great career taking on everyone. He wasn't afraid of America like Calzaghe and despite being a defensive minded fighter, he gave us highlight reel knockouts. Too bad his commentary sucks, lol.

He is a top 10 heavy atg without a doubt..

What i don't get is all these Klitschko nuthuggers like Battling "his gay obsession for V. Klitschko meat" Nelson. They act like Vk destroyed Lewis over the 6 rounds when it was infact 4-2.. on the scorecards in VK favor. Im sorry the fight was over 12 and Lewis Cut Vk badly with a punch and won it fairly, you should be happy they stopped it rather then having Lewis blind Klitschko for life.

A year younger than Vitali is now.
