chavez was quite protected, look at the scorecards of the taylor fight

he is a greast fighter, and would still be a great fighter with a loss to pea and even with a loss to taylor (which he would have viciously avenged anyway)

i think he is "overrated" like marciano: some people think he is the greatest fighter ever, which he is not.

What do you want me say, he ran like a ***** and made the usuall boring ass fight Pea always made. He did what it took to win but tis thread is about something else.

Why is this thread about that fight, I thought they asked if you think he was over rated. Im wondering if people would of liked him more if he had a big mouth like ALI. If you want to compare Chavez and PeaPea, Pea didnt do half of what Chavez did in his career and he is ranked higher in the all time greats . Maybe Pea's ability to speak english helps him???Besides him having a thicker skull and taking a punch he had very under rated defense.

It's perfectly legitimate to bring up a fighters opponent(s) if your discussing a thread as to whether or not he's overrated!! How else are you supposed to guage whether or not a person is overrated?

I agree dude I think Chavez is a LEGEND!! There are too many victories that he has to even talk about!! The guys is one of the greatest Ive ever seen.. I just think that he would never beat Sweet Pea, and I thought he deserved to lose that fight to Taylor!! I just hate to see people get robbed especially when they fight masterfully!!

Bomber, it's understandable that you may like the fearless, always go to war and go forward style that Chavez used...but to discredit Whitaker by saying that the greatest defensive fighter to ever do it (IMO since I've never seen footage of Pep) was a running ***** is a disgrace. Whitaker didn't only make Chavez look ordinary in their fight, but he put on a clinic of dodging Chavez left hands and slipping his jabs and crosses. All of those landed punches must not have meant anything either...

Whitaker was just REALLY really bad stylistically for Chavez. He was way too good defensively and he was way to intelligent/quick to let Chavez get to him. He would have outboxed Chavez at any weight.

Chavez was an excellent fighter and is one of my favorites. Whoever said that Tito is better than Chavez needs to go check themselves into a clinic ASAP.

White Viejo, there no doubt that Pea won and out classed Chaves in my eyes but I anyone of the judges that night. Like I said before even if Chaves was given that rightfull loss that night,he is and always be P4P better than Pea just by all his acomplishments. I remember Sweet Pie always crying that he didnt get the attention he wanted. Defensive fighter dont sell tickets, warriors sell tickets. Look at Winky he dominated Tito every second of their fight will he get credit for it 10 years from now? I think Winky is ten times more exciting to watch than Pea. I would give Pea credit for not being recognized but the guy is ranked 15 all time best.
