....I got no problem with Mexican fighters but IMO he was way overated. He fought a ton of stiffs and aside from having a hard head he never impressed me that much. I think the Mexican community loves him so much because he embodies the macho Mexican tough guy image. As far as talent goes he got way to much credit.

Well his record is pretty padded. Like his first 30 pro fights were at the local Tijuana boxing club. But besides that I dont really think he is overrated.

Wow, thanks for putng me on front street ... I never said Tito was better than him, I only said he could be better cause if anything they have alot of things in common, and that JCC isnt WAY better than Tito, has many like to shove in peoples faces, I got nothing but love for Mexican fighters .

          Anwser: Yes, he is overrated.

Well I said if he went the Winky, Hopkins and Lacy route, he could of been better than Duran too, but he got donminated by Winky so its all but a dream now, Duran is still the greatest, and yes, Trinidad, Benitez and Oscar De La Hoya are better than Chavez, cause he is overrated (to the point people have called him the best ever), but he still a great fighter tho.

I don`t think he`s overrated. True, his first 30 - 40 fights were against journeyman bums but he also had fights with many terrific fighters and in his prime always won ( he reversed the Randell defeat ).
Pernell Whitiker beat him ( i know its a draw but..) but Whitiker was in his prime and maybe a top 15 fighter of all time so no shame there.
Allot of the fighters he beat at world level were unproven but maybe such was Chavez`s brutal dis - missle of them he might have ended their careers at world level, much like Trinidad`s destruction of Vargas seemed to hinder Vargas ( he`s young, he might recover after the lenghy lay off ).
JCC also had one of the greatest chins of all time. He faced brutal punchers however took the punches so well people dis - missed his opponent's power after he beat them.
Apart from the Willy Wise defeat ( when well passed his prime ) JCC only lost to exceptional world class fighters ( also when he was well passed his best ).
So in this context, i believe that no way JCC was over - rated. He should rightfully be inducted into the hall of fame and go down certainly in the top 25 fighters of all time. The guy is a legend!

Hey Kimmy I love that avatar.. Was that the same day that Bernard desecrated the Puerto Rican flag infront of Tito? Chavez was slightly overrated, not nearly as much as Tito though.. Could you imagine Chavez losing every round to a guy with just a jab and then not adapting to it?

Huh, he is somewhat overrated by some people but he really is an all time great with an excellent resume. He fought guys like Taylor and Tszyu and other all time greats and even beat most of them. That sure puts you into BHOF. Anyway my final answer is that he is not overrated at least not as much as some other great fighters.
