Even the most steadfast Chavez supporters would have to admit that in their primes Chavez would lose rather convincingly to Pete Whitaker!! That decision in the San Antonio Dome as a draw was a disgrace!!

I agree completely. Pernell would have beaten Chavez wherever, whenever.

You cannot base a legends career on one fight.
All Pete did (thats what you want to call him) was avoid the Chaves' left hand and in the eyes of the judges that wasnt enough
to get a victory. I myself thought Chaves lost but even then how many victories did he have. Chavez at 147 was nothing to compared to the 130-135 Chavez.

how about pea landing those punches, did th ejudges thought it was not enough to win
chavez was quite protected, look at the scorecards of the taylor fight
he is a greast fighter, and would still be a great fighter with a loss to pea and even with a loss to taylor (which he would have viciously avenged anyway)
i think he is "overrated" like marciano: some people think he is the greatest fighter ever, which he is not.

His record seems overrated but its the same with most who fights alot, you cant keep fighting the worlds best all the time. However mexicans seems to regard him as the greatest mexican fighter of all time which I think maybe the overrated part.
Duran vs JCC at lightweight or welter? Id give it to Duran

The only thing that made Pernell (the most boring fighter ever)
look good and deserve the win was the way he studied the left hand and stayed away from it like majic.

What's he supposed to do. let himself get popped in the face with it? Not to take anything away from Chavez he is a legend no doubt about that!! He would have NEVER have beaten Whitaker, I don't care what weight they fought at!! Interesting I read an article on Chavez.. It said that he was a freak of nature, that his skull was much thicker than the average humans. Perhaps that's one of the reasons why he could take a punch with the best of them!!

Maybe Pea's ability to speak english helps him???Besides him having a thicker skull and taking a punch he had very under rated defense.
