Hopkins fighting Calzaghe at that point made no sense.

Calzaghe was all risk and little reward at that point.

Hopkins was far smarter waiting till later on when Calzaghe was actually recognized by the boxing world and had some good names in his resume.

People keep mentioning how Hopkins opted to fight Hakkar instead but the reality is that was his mandatory ( a pathetic one but not Hopkins fault). It Hopkins didn't fight him, he would of lost his title(s).
