Look, as boxing fans, we should be upset that Klit/Chambers isn't going to be televised in America. But we all know the reason why it isn't: People don't want to watch the Klitchkos fight.
Its as simple as that. It has nothing to do with nationality. If that were the case, then why did Cotto/Pacquiao, 2 NON Americans who speak more BROKEN English than the Klitchkos, do over a million PPV buys? How has Pacquiao been a consistent PPV fighter?
It really doesn't even have to do with Boxing. Take Fedor Emelianenko. The guy is Russian. Americans cant tell Ukrainians and Russians apart so Nationality is not the issue, but the difference between Emelianenko and the Klitchkos is that Fedor delivers entertainment where as the Klitchkos don't. Pacquiao and Cotto deliver entertainment as the Klitchkos don't. Thus, networks are not interested in broadcasting their fights because the casual fans aren't interested in watching them. Here you have 2 fighters who are over 6'6 ft tall, massive and they fight like their opponents are made of herpes.
Now, this is where you reply with that same ol' cliche response..
Chad Dawson is a top 3 favorite fighter for me. I love watching dude fight. Very technical, patient, methodical. I appreciate the finesse and intellegence he brings to the ring. But the majority of the casual community doesnt. He couldn't draw flies to ****. A lot of hardcore fans feel the same way about the Klits as I feel about Dawson. But What you or I think or appreciate or find entertaining doesn't matter. Why? Because we are hardcore fans. We are to boxing to what hardcore hip hop fans are to underground Hip Hop. We keep it relevant, but we don't keep it prominent.
So can we stop with this, "if the Klitchko's were American, they would be super stars" bull****? Because they wouldn't.
