  • Klitchko Fans Need To Come To Terms With Reality

Look, as boxing fans, we should be upset that Klit/Chambers isn't going to be televised in America. But we all know the reason why it isn't: People don't want to watch the Klitchkos fight.

Its as simple as that. It has nothing to do with nationality. If that were the case, then why did Cotto/Pacquiao, 2 NON Americans who speak more BROKEN English than the Klitchkos, do over a million PPV buys? How has Pacquiao been a consistent PPV fighter?

It really doesn't even have to do with Boxing. Take Fedor Emelianenko. The guy is Russian. Americans cant tell Ukrainians and Russians apart so Nationality is not the issue, but the difference between Emelianenko and the Klitchkos is that Fedor delivers entertainment where as the Klitchkos don't. Pacquiao and Cotto deliver entertainment as the Klitchkos don't. Thus, networks are not interested in broadcasting their fights because the casual fans aren't interested in watching them. Here you have 2 fighters who are over 6'6 ft tall, massive and they fight like their opponents are made of herpes.

Now, this is where you reply with that same ol' cliche response..

Chad Dawson is a top 3 favorite fighter for me. I love watching dude fight. Very technical, patient, methodical. I appreciate the finesse and intellegence he brings to the ring. But the majority of the casual community doesnt. He couldn't draw flies to ****. A lot of hardcore fans feel the same way about the Klits as I feel about Dawson. But What you or I think or appreciate or find entertaining doesn't matter. Why? Because we are hardcore fans. We are to boxing to what hardcore hip hop fans are to underground Hip Hop. We keep it relevant, but we don't keep it prominent.

So can we stop with this, "if the Klitchko's were American, they would be super stars" bull****? Because they wouldn't.

Good points. Expect Carnivore and Steelhammer_2010 to get wet in their panties though.

I am a big fan of Wlad and Dawson actually and can see what you are saying here.....they have very little mainstream appeal but it has little to do with their styles, Floyd isn't action packed but is one of the biggest draws in boxing today.

The best thing Wlad could do to make himself more marketable is video tape himself earning the name Dr. Steelahmmer with Hayden and post it online as much as that would hurt Loccy.

The same with Bad Chad, they need to do and say outlandish things to garner maninstream attention look what it does for Hopkins who is notorious for being in snoozers.

Who cares if people in America want to watch them though?
Wlads last fight had a 61,000 live attendance and was watched in Germany by 13 million people.
His fight with Chambers will draw 50,000 live attendance and will get around 13 million viewers again.
Vitalis fight with Lennox Lewis was watched by a live audience of 5 million people DESPITE it being 5am in Germany.
They make huge amounts of cash, have massive viewing figures from Ukraine/Russia and Germany combined and get bigger live gates than ANY American fighter around.
The fact that Vitali can fight a guy no one has heard of (Kevin Johnson) In a foreign country (Switzerland) and sell out 17,000 tickets before they go on general sale is incredible no matter what anyone says.

              The Klitschko's don't need America. The real reason why they don't hit it off with your everyday Yank on the street is because;

              A. They're not American.

              B. They're not black.

              True Story.

                Exxxactly.
Whether everyone in America watches them or no one does..the cash keeps rolling in and the viewers in Eastern Europe keep watching.

The fact that Americans were excited by Garbage like Arreola possibly beating Vitali and now Chambers beating Wlad tells me everything I need to know.
If they were American they would still be boring yes but they would be liked because they are keeping Americas stranglehold on the HW division.
Sadly its Europe who will continue to dominate.

                    Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

I agree with everything you said Mr. Senator. I'm not a hardcore boxing fan but a fan none-the-less. It's painful to sit through a klits fight more so Wlad. Also, I find it hard to watch Dawson fight I find him rather boring. I try to enjoy it I really do, but in the end I just can't. I can watch a Mayweather fight and be on the edge of my seat tho just because of the immense skill he exhumes the reflexes are impeccable and many find him a boring fighter so I don't know.

But Wlad Klitschko fighting cans like Rahman and not being agressive is tough to watch.
