  • No Maidana? No Bradley or Alexander?

Then here's the guy he should fight.

Money. Plain and simple. Marquez is still one of the best in the world though.

      • Marquez got dominated in his last fight. No way should he be considered for a title shot straight after a bad defeat. I'm glad he has pulled out. Hopefully Khan vs Maidana gets made so people will stop bitching, but Khan vs Mallignaggi, or Khan vs Hatton will do.

....but are you being fair in judging jmm based on his loss to POTENTIALLY the pound for pound number one, 2 weights above lightweight?? take into consideration jmm wasn't even a fully flegded LIGHTWEIGHT, having only had two (albeit impressive) lightweight bouts.. ??

can't understand also how anyone could see paulie knocking out amir. of course, there are no certainties in this sport but considering paulie, for all his skills, couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag, coupled with the fact that he'd be facing someone who unlike most of his previous opponents, has greater handspeed, i just don't see that as a good fight for paulie. i know amir may not have the best chin, but still..

          • I don't think we will see Khan take on Mallignaggi. Despite being feather fisted he is capable of outboxing Khan and could get him going. Golden Boy have put in a huge amount of effort into negotiating Maidana into selling himself short and not enforcing his mandatory rights. They now have a 3 fight breather and space to operate. IMO Marquez was used to provide credibility to the Maidana duck,he is a Golden Boy fighter and I do not for one moment think there was EVER any real intention for Khan Marquez to go ahead. It was there as a diversion to take attention away from the Maidana duck. I am pretty sure Khan will be fighting a Salita level boxer in his US debut.

well here's hoping john that khan doesn't fight a salita calibre opponent in his U.S debut. if khan were to go down the route of those level guys, as opposed to the mentioned group of jjm, malignaggi and maidana, then defensive errors would develop, as well as complacency, and the bolton lad may end up on his seat again before time!
you may well be onto something regarding the marquez conspiracy. here's hoping that you're wrong though as a marquez fight would be very intriguing!

              • Marquez vs. Valero at 135 makes sense to me.

M@RKY M@rk,Here is a thread I started on the Marquez conspiracy

                  http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=356047

bear in mind I started the thread before Marquez pulled out. It is a long post but gives supporting evidence.
You are right about the effect of protecting a fighter on the fighter's development. If the fighter knows he is being protected as clearly Khan does the subconscious kicks in and the potential dangers don't frighten and motivate the boxer to learn his craft. The result is a soft domesticated fighter, protection works very much like a zoo kept animal ,if you took a zoo lion and put it in the wild it is not going to fare well. As the fighter becomes softer the need for protecting increases and you end up getting into a vicious circle. We are there already and have been with Khan for some time. They will keep feeding him canned fights but will eventually come unstuck when one of the soft touch opponents throws up a nasty surprise beats him. It won't happen against a good fighter because he will never be put in the ring with one. The pattern gets clearer as the charade continues.

                  • I'm afraid I lost all interest in Khan. But I'm sure there is another light punching match that can be made(made?? I mean maidana)

As previously reported, Marquez's manager/trainer Nacho Beristain made some very negative comments in the Mexican press about Golden Boy's offer to fight Khan.
