Valero was amazing especially with the early adversity he had to overcome, and to dominate the fight like that. First time I saw him fight, and I've become a fan. Can't wait to see him fight again.

I was very impressed with Valero. And fighting through that massive cut from the accidental elbow should be inspirational to some of those fighters who quit at the sight of their own blood.
With that aside, I fail to see ANYTHING good about the open scoring system. In both bouts (well, esp the Abregu-Gutierrez bout) the fighters damn near stopped fighting all together while listening to the score being announced out loud after the 4th and 8th round. And, as in evidence in almost all open scoring fights I've watched in the past, the winning fighter almost always gets on their bicycle and holds for the remaining fights, and ruins it for the fans. Also, what this writer fails to mention in this article is that the WBC rules (which suck) also include that in case of an accidental foul the UNinjured fighter is deducted 1 point, 2 points if the foul is intentional! Now, I'm all for it if the foul is intentional, but come on... even in the Valero fight, where his forehead was horribly split, it happened by no fault of either fighter. DeMarco was throwing a overhand left in which Valero hit his forearm with a punch (blocked the punch with his fist) and it forced DeMarcos elbow straight into Valeros forehead. Now, I know that in most cases these injuries do impair the cut fighter, but the rules are so non specific that it COULD have been dramatic in the final scoring had this fight been closer in points (and Valero wasn't such a warrior).
Imagine how many times a headbutt has been caused by say, Joshua Clottey - I'm not sure I've ever seen him bleed from so many of the headbutts that were his fault! That would mean penalizing his opponent because the headbutter didn't bleed. I don't know what the answer is, but the current WBC rules suck. (I do like the instant replay panel however).

Valero basically assaulted DeMarco over 9. I had him winning every round and didn't think any were even close. Add to the fact that DeMarco elbowed him and caused a pretty bad cut in the 2nd and he had another little cut on his eye. Valero looked very good and I think he has a real shot at cleaning out this division. Definitely one of my new favorite fighters.

Valero "El Loco"
Good show put on by Valero. He abused that kid. After the 8th round, I thought Demarco was gonna die. He looked horrible. Valero has better skills then I thought. I knew he could fight but I questioned if he could box. Hey did any1 notice how the Commentator Glen Johnson was talking about Valero wasn't really hurting Demarco in the early rounds? Smh, then By round 5, he was on his d!ck. Lol

After this peformance Valero is the real thing. He kept his composure after those bad cuts and kept punching fast and hard till the end. Actually he got better as the fight went on especially his defence.
Demarco kept balance and diciplined but in the end Valero was too much. Hopefully it will be top fighters for Valero from this point on

I want to see a fight between Valero and JMM too, but I think the thing that's gonna prevent it is the fact that GBP and Top Rank hate each other right now. I think JMM should get away from GBP because you can tell by the way they talk that they want him to be a stepping stone for Khan. Arum wants JMM to be a stepping stone for Valero too, but JMM has to fight someone unless he wants to retire. I also don't think Khan stands a chance against JMM despite what a lot of people think. His chin is too weak and JMM still hits hard enough to get you out of there over the course of a fight.

Let JMM fight Khan while Valero fights one of the top Lightweights. That would set up a Valero vs Marquez fight at JR WW, assuming both Valero & Marquez get past their opponents.

Everyone settle down. Valero looked great but he is not the best lightweight yet. First of all Demarco is hardly top competition at lightweight. He got a gift when he fought adjaho who knocked himself out.
Ali Funeka easily knocks out Valero
