  • Comments Thread For: Valero Remains Perfect, Forces DeMarco To Wilt After Nine

By Jake Donovan - Far too often, a fighter that develops a huge cult following is built up to the point where he’s bound for a major letdown once the rest of the world finally has a chance to sneak a peek.

Edwin Valero did everything in his power to make sure he lived up to the lofty press clippings for his Showtime-televised debut against Antonio DeMarco on Saturday evening.

The end result was perhaps the finest hour to date, scoring a dominant ninth-round stoppage of DeMarco on the road at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.

Both fighters weighed in at the lightweight limit of 135 pounds.

The bout was staged south of the border due to visa issues for Valero stemming from a DUI charge late last year denying the Venezuelan entrance into the United States.

It mattered little to Valero, who took note of the scouting report that had DeMarco as a deliberately slow starter and fought accordingily.

The preliminary plan seemed to be for DeMarco to force a deep fight by allowing Valero to empty his clip in the early rounds. Valero never quite took the bait, but still found the time to take advantage of DeMarco’s propensity for being a slow starter. The action offered by the Venezuelan came in a controlled sense, landing clean shots and wasting very few of them. [Click Here To Read More]

I am a believer. Valero is the goods. I was very impressed with the way he picked his spots and used his angles in there.

Demarco has a very good beard, he took them
constant lefts and stayed on his feet.he had me thinking a little if he just continued to jab and keep it on the outside he could have got the ud if not at least the sd especially being in Mexico, just needed to stay desciplined.I could tell Demarco didn't look to focused he was smiling Alot and didn't look to have the killer instinct to take the belt from valero, maybe that's his personality I guess.

This was the test that wold tell us if valero is the real deal. He passed it with flying colors. Valero has p4p top 10 potential. he should go after juan diaz in houston texas where he is licensed to fight.

congratulations to valero. That nasty cut from an elbow added fuel to the myth and he was able to compensate for it and still dominated. Convincing win.

            yes, he looks better now
            moving from side to side
and he is able to outbox his opponents now instead of just brawling
imagine if he could get a bit of defensive help
valero being a complete fighter would be unstoppable
but the way he fights as of now
            his future look exiting
            all hail to the KING!!!

                My prediction

If Valero can get another one or 2 more wins under his belt against solid opposition, Mayweather and Pacquiao are going to "fight" over him in hopes of easily giving Valero his first loss. Whoever accomplishes this first is going to use that as leverage to demand a bigger share of the purse for the inevitable Floyd Pacman showdown.

Valero's style would be tailor-made for Floyd. This would be an another easy opportunity for Floyd to claim that he blemished another perfect record like he did with Hatton. And since Floyd is notorious for fighting smaller guys, then this is just another day at the office for him.

Pacman already has the confidence of being able to handle the punches from strong welterweights, therefore Valero will not likely pose a threat to him.

Valero will likely have to come up to 144-147 pounds which willl probably slow him down but he will be more than willing to fight either guy since it will be the biggest paycheck of his career and there is absolutely nothing to lose. A loss to either Floyd or Pac will not hurt his career.

Valero really impressed me during this fight. The man is a beast with tremendous heart. He had that huge gash on his head from an elbow in the first round that many fighters would try to get their fights stopped and kept fighting hard. He didnt let the cut on the eye lid bother him either. He outworked his opponent the whole fight and didnt seem like he was going to slow down. Valero showed a lot more skill in this fight then I thought he had. He will be a tough fight for anyone.
