How would Calzaghe have done against a young Jones and Hopkins?

Calzaghe is like Jones in that his best asset was speed. So all this talk about him being as good as his prime when he was 36 is garbage. He couldn't even flucking punch hard later in his career post 2005.
Just looking at his Eubank fight in 1997, He was faster, punched much harder and had that 15 round stamina. All those assets were much worse in 2008 when he beat Jones and Hopkins.

He beats RJJ in a close fight!!!
That's a misconception about Hopkins. Hopkins when he was much younger was just as skilled as he is now, except that he had a much better work-rate, was sharper, and much better stamina.

Prime Hopkins (1996-2003)>>>>>>Hopkins past his prime (2004-)

Calzaghe loses to both, especially a prime RJJ.

He was never a particularly hard puncher, more an accumulative puncher. He slapped almost constantly. It always pissed me off how one of the fundamentals of boxing is punching with the knuckle part of the glove, and he completely ignored that. He was a little faster in his youth, but he was still probablt about 90% as quick as he ever was in both those fights, and obviously his stamina hadn't really deteriorated. Jones, prime, was way more athletic and skilled than Joe C, with a proper boxing brain. Calzaghe was one-track minded; steam forward throwing clusters of 'slaps', sometimes setting up the flurries with feel out jabs. He'd have walked on to Jones's crisp, accurate left hook and uppercut. Look at Jones v Toney and Calzaghe v Lacy and tell me you don't see that

Just curious, because I hear that win brought up a lot.
Who did Hopkins fight before fighting Jones?

Well said, my favourite performance of his was against Glen, when afterwards he lamented that they had done away with 15 round fights years ago, he seemed genuinely disappointed!

alotta that still depends on when he fought them.i think he could beat a younger hopkins, but i see no way possible for him to beat a young roy.young roy is probally the most offensivley gifted fighter ever with a solid chin.due to work rate,he would always be a tough out for bernard, but not for roy

                      Why?

It is all fantasy anyway. The facts are he beat both (yes they were old, but Joe was 36, is that young now?). Fantasy matchups never amount to ****.Funny how Floyd fans have no understanding that Joe had very brittle hurt hands (that is why he slapped alot toward the end of his career), besides that, the man had pretty descent skills (his fight with Kessler was one of the best fights of that year).

Not a Joe fan at all btw.

I don't see Hop doing much different.

Roy had alot more back then, but really fought no one for a while. I can see how it would be different, but who cares? Really? Beside cats that don't want to except that Joe beat them?

                      On A Side Note:
This is the first time I have ever entered a "Fantasy topic", it will be the last...I hate fantasy ****. Lets just deal with the facts people. No matter how hard to except.
