    Mexican Day Parade?

Try the weekend of Mexican Independence Day.

But don't act like Mayweather is the only fighter who's fought a Mexican fighter in a big money fight on that weekend. He's just the only one who gets **** for it.

Doesnt Cotto purposely fight around PR day parades??

Im sure that 'The Event'will be quite successfull as arguably the best p4p fighter is involved. Im a huge floyd fan but youve got to accept that pacquiao-clottey will to good on the ppv buys. I see maybe just under 1 million buys for 'The Event'. I think that Mayweather-Mosley is a far bigger fight, because 90% of the boxing community want Shane to pull off the win. I belive that the mayweathr-mosley fight will generate 1.5 million ppv buys if not more.

Lets just enhoy some great boxing coming up in the next few months.

Point is dude, you don't know jack about Mexicans. Don't generalize. Because for however many Mexicans who buy Pacquiao-Clottey because of Pacquiao or Mexicans on the undercard, more Mexicans will buy Mayweather-Mosley because it's a more high profile fight and because Mexican fighters will be on that undercard as well.
          youre the exception i guess...

the subway lady next door says she loves pac and her big family has fiestas eveytime he fights. she dont know **** about boxing but when i mentioned pac, she brightened up. All the mexicans that watched JMM-Floyd at the casino (packed by mexicans BTW) gives hella props to pac. Top Ranks reception in mexico for "the event" was reported a success. how can u say i cant generalize when its right there in my face?

exacly. to get his nations support.

it was clear to see that JMM was relying on floyd to sell the fight in july but it went the other way around. Floyd relied on mexicans to sell the fight

I think the PPV will do about 800k buys. I don't think the live gate number will be huge but with the $50 tickets they should have a good crowd on hand.

Because you're acting as though Mexicans will support Pacquiao-Clottey and shun Mayweather-Mosley because they love Pacquiao.

Dude, I'm Mexican. I bet I know hundreds if not thousands more Mexicans than you. Many Mexicans do love Pacquiao. You know what though? Many Mexicans love Shane Mosley too. You know what else? Many many Mexicans just love a good fight. Most Mexicans could honestly give two ****s who is fighting as long as it promises to be a fun fight to watch.

But you said, Mexicans will throw their full support behind Pacquiao because they love him. Then you said, I'm the exception among Mexicans. Like you know Mexicans so much better than I do.

You want to know something. At my house I've had at least a dozen Mexicans over to watch Mayweather-Gatti, Mayweather-DLH and Mayweather-Hatton. I went to Vegas with about 5 other Mexicans to watch Mayweather-Judah. You think Mexicans don't watch Mayweather? Mexicans watch boxing you idiot. They don't like Mayweather, but they watch him anyway. You think that's going to stop for the Mosley fight? LOL

I don't care as long as the fight is entertaining. I see a lot of talk about money on this forum. None of that matters, or should matter anyway. I just want my money's worth when I tune in to a fight. And I believe Pac-Clottey will deliver more action than a Pac-Floyd fight would have.

My thing is this; Pacquiao walked away from the Mayweather fight. That's the truth of the matter. It may have been over principle or whatever, but Pacquiao walked away. He had a deal in place to fight Clottey probably after weeks of negotiation, while pretending to still be compromising on drug testing that he knew came nowhere near meeting the Mayweather position.

So, having walked away from the Mayweather fight, Pacquiao's main trump card in future negotiations with Mayweather will, ostensibly, be that Pacquiao is a bigger draw, more popular and exciting fighter, etc. Fine, whatever.

But here's my question, with all this talk of how popular Pacquiao is how success is "The Event" actually going to be. 25,000 tickets basically went to brokers/scalpers in hopes that the fight would sellout. But with Clottey, not Mayweather, in the other corner, what if the fight doesn't sell out? And even with popular ticket sellers like John Duddy, Jose Luis Castillo, Salvador Sanchez, Alfonso Gomez and others constantly being added to the undercard, what if those 25,000 tickets don't all get picked up? Ultimately, they're going to be given away dirt cheap.

And this is not a diss against Clottey, but do we really expect 1 mil PPV buys with Clottey? I give him a very good chance of winning, but Pacquiao fans aren't necessarily going to think so. Many of them think Pacquiao would knock anyone out and since many of those people have never heard of Clottey...well you know.

What happens if "The Event" just does ok? Maybe 30-35,000 semi papered crowd. Somewhere between 500-600k in PPV buys and Clottey wins 5 round or so. The money, the buys and the appeal of the fight won't match Mayweather-Mosley. Because whether it's fair or not, Mosley is considered more of a live dog than Clottey (personally, I think Clottey has a better chance of beating Pacquiao than Mosley does of beating Mayweather, but I'm probably one of few). So, even if Mayweather has trouble, a win will be considered impressive.

If the money for "The Event" is just fairly good, but dwarfs in comparison to Mayweather-Mosley and the prospective Mayweather-Pacquiao fight and Pacquiao struggles to beat Clottey (or God forbid, loses to Clottey) then was all of this pride against the so-called "Mayweather Rules" really worth it?

At the end of the day, Pacquiao walked away from the Mayweather fight and unless "The Event" is a huge blockbuster and an amazing fight, it was probably the wrong thing to do.

I doubt it will crack a mill, but close to it 800k to 1M is good. And with the Texas folks having the opportunity to see a pacquaio fight, live gate can be big. It also helps that the stadium is so bad ass. I mean, if you have never been to the new stadium, now is a good a time as any.

I was just thinking about the whole scalping of tickets though, these guys scoop up tickets because they crank the price when it is sold out, with the capability of the stadium increasing seats, i doubt this is smart of them.

I think the potential of this "event" is very underrated they have the atmosphere, stadium, jerry jones (a very powerful man)a undercard full of mexicans, and pac. Expectations aren't very high in this fight, therefore it will exceed such expectations.

It's funny though the home of "america's" team is hosting a card full of foreigners
