Khan's whole body has changed since joining Roach. He used to have spindly legs and far too much muscle on his back. Now his legs are sturdier and his back is leaner and more flexible; and as well as improving his punch-resistance, this means his upper body movement is far better now.

He used to keep his hands low and his chin in the air. He now keeps his hands up and his chin tucked in much more.

He had never been taught how to block or roll with punches properly, and his stance used to be all wrong. His blocking is much better, he has started to roll with punches, and his stance and overall footwork and balance have improved dramatically, which has an influence on punch resistance.

He didn't used to clinch when hurt, so that once he was hurt it was easy to hit him with follow-up punches. Now he clinches effectively whenever he takes a solid punch.

He has a superb jab but he rarely used it properly before teaming up with Roach; and he used to swing so wildly that he moved straight onto counter-punches coming back at him, which has the effect of greatly increasing their effective power (analogous to a head-on collision).

He has sparred intensively with Pacquiao, and stood up well to his punches, reportedly.

Ali was considered chinny in his early career, but had an ATG chin in his late career. Chins can improve.

All Roach has done with Khan is make him fight exclusively from long range and not commit to his shots. Khan got knocked out because he has a low Boxing IQ. When he fought Prescott he went reaching downstairs with a left hook which is a big no no, now if he Khan had anything about him upstairs he would not of threw that shot from where he threw it or he would of diversified and jabbed first to take Prescott's eyes then throw the hook to the body, Khan did not put anything before the hook and tried to throw it from outside, thats! why he got nailed with left hook, now that is nothing to do with fundamentals its to do his selection of punch and basic lack of Boxing IQ, if he had a Boxing IQ he would of known not to reach to the body like that.

Khan has learned to slip a little but he is still too straight up and he still fights in straight lines. Barrerra nailed him with a good left hook when he came in straight on the line. If Khan had a Boxing IQ he would not come in on the line like he did against Barrera, he would punch off the angles he creates and be safe. Roy Jones does not just gets away with not setting up his attacks with the jab because he is just too quick he gets away with it because he is quick but also because he has an extremely high Boxing IQ and knows how to create angles for himself to punch off.

Khan has improved his combination punching and and his he defence has improved marginally but he is still a naive fighter who will get walked into shots and take the bait when people set traps for him. My biggest criticism of Khan has always been that he is not a smart fighter, Roach cant ingrain a Boxing IQ in him he needs to spot the dangers in these situations himself, make no mistake about it Roach aint throwing him in and is saying he is 70% the fighter he wants him to be because he still way too naive and needs to learn a lot.

Dynamite Kid, Very good and accurate observations. Khan is a bit thick and does not have a high boxing IQ. It is good to see someone did not buy into Khan went toe to toe and rushed in on Prescott. That is total bull****. He did not know what to do with a taller man and his feeble attempt of a left uppercut/hook lead was asking for trouble and he got it. That was very poor thinking I don't feel Roach will be able to improve Khan's Boxing IQ but will be able to teach him set piece moves in various situations.

Being the most popular fighter don't make you the best, but it makes you the most paid. Apparently ppl have forgotten that you should fight all commers if you want to be an ATG. Cause of Khan's position he can be selective in his bouts because of the promotional machine that he has had backing him up.

They ran out of the Salita's of the world and now is time to fight with somebody with value in his weight division. To say the Maidana fight is not a big fight is unreasonable. All that saw that Ortiz fight want to see more of him. They can spin it all they want, it is what it is.

The biggest hype job in the sport today is actually JCC jr

Khan is 23 years old, he could be in his prime for another 10 years, again i say what is the ****ing rush, it's not like he was in the olympics at 30, is now 34 and only has a few years left.

Anyone who think's you can't teach ring smarts needs to watch a career set of Lennox Lewis or Wlad Klitschko

You simply don't know that, fighters peak at different times. Maybe when he was at 135 he was to weak, only he knows. But if there is all this hype and you are a champ you got to fight the mandatory. The rules shouldn't be bent cause he is popular and he has ppl with influence. So you gonna say that Maidana is not worthy of a title shot? These are professional athletes that sacrifice alot and should be given an honest shot when they deserve it. Not to block the guy out.

Every fighter wants to be a champ, so if he is not gonna fight him he should vacate the title and deal with the negative incomming perception that he is gonna generate. I cannot not see how he can be defended, then he should had stayed a contender and stood away from the belt if he wanted to be selective of the fighters that he wants to face

Maidana of course deserves his shot, but right now, Khan can get better fights, if Amir fights Marquez, i would like him to drop the title, and Maidana can fight cayo for the vacant title.

I personally think Amir has enough skills and physical attributes to beat Maidana who is a crude puncher. But it is an excellent test and a fight that would actully take him to the next level. Next thing you know Amir will make to much money early and we will never see his full potential cause he got spoiled.
