All the he needs time crap flew out the door when he got a ****ing title in the division. If he wants to grow he should do that before he snatches up a belt. Now he is a champ and should behave in a manner acceptable of a champion.Comment

Don't try and turn this into a race issue bro (I'm black for what its worth). It's got nothing to do with it. For example Mayweather & Jermain Taylor before he ran into Pavlik where probably about second only two Oscar in the pay stakes at HBO.The fact that Khan gets to fight on HBO and is getting a big push, the same as Victor Ortiz, yet solid black fighters at 140 are ignored and ridiculed at 140 pisses me off. Kendall Holt, Devon Alexander, Tim Bradley, Lamont Peterson, Ricardo Torres, hell even Juan Urango, these people have fought top comp at 140 and are ignored and put down, while jokes like Khan who is fighting a blown up 135 fighter gets a pass? Ortiz ****ing quits in teh ring and he is promoted like hell, gets movies/documentaries made after him and ****, regardless of his actual achievement.
Damn I hope Tim Bradley and Alexander stop playing nice. The only way they are going to get money is if they start cooning it up and acting like negative stereotypes, because HBO and the big money will not find them if they don't.
If Bradley in particular wants to get on HBO then he needs to leave his promoter Gary ''the fat obese slob'' Shaw who deals exclusively with Showtime.Comment

Exactly.
When Khan signed to fight Kotelnik I was dead against it, even though I thought Khan would win that fight, for that very reason. Once you've won a world title you can't avoid fighters just because you consider them to be risky, without dishonouring the sport of boxing and ****ting on all boxing fans who take the sport seriously as a sport.Comment

You know there might be something to be said for the fact that the belts dont seem to mean **** to the established fighters anymore, and that the belts they would normally hold and reign with are abandoned and picked up by prospect who are not far enough along into their development to be able to defend it against the guys a so called World Champion should be defending his belt against.
Do you think there is any truth to that ?Comment

Boxers have a love-hate relationship with the belts. They almost all want to own at least one. Even Pac made it clear that Cotto's WBO trinket was a crucial element in making the fight.

And mandatories are a necessary evil. Without them, you get Archie Moore being a world class fighter from his early 20s but not getting his first title shot until he was 39.
I don't have a problem if a boxer gives up a belt for solid boxing reasons (Dawson is a great example of that); but giving up a belt because you're worried that your mandatory might beat you just sucks, and makes a mockery of boxing as a sport.
In the long term, boxing the business can only be healthy as long as boxing the sport has some credibility.Last edited by Dave Rado; 02-02-2010, 05:49 PM.Comment
