if not the best first step.
That is not true at all. I have explained this before on this forum, and no one paid it any attention.

Margo was the WW champ that had defended his title for 10 years without a loss. Meanwhile, the belt Baldi had, changed hands four times (Mayorg beating Forrest, Spinks beating Mayorga, Zab beating Spinks, Baldie beating Zab), Margo was the one that showed the ability to be a legit challenger.

Now if you would have said, "the casual fan didn't know Margo", I would have to agree, but the boxing community, knew full well who the hell Margo was...Don't play yourself by thinking otherwise.

MARGARITO CALLED FLOYD OUT TO HIS FACE AND NEVER GOT THE FIGHT! That's why Margarito is relevant to the discussion. This is why boxing is going downhill. Because someone has to even call you out to make a fight. Cotto has never called anyone out and has fought every top welter except PWill. And no one but Margarito even fought him. Cotto cares about his LEGACY so he takes on the best opposition he can find. Mayweather doesn't because, "Legacy don't pay bills." Cool, if you want to take easy, safe fights against weak opposition so you can make the most money and stay undefeated, whatever. But don't talk about how you're the greatest fight of all time when you haven't fought an opponent worth mentioning since you were a lightweight. Mayweather was the supposed "champ" but no one but scrubs got a shot at his crown. Names mean everything. Not belts. And at 147, Mayweather doesn't have them.
      100% co-sign!

Let's hope that this fight REALLY happens and then Floyd will continue to fight TOP WWs.

      • If Mosley May doesnt do well on PPV, you will not see another PPV with 2 black american fighters in a VERY long time.

Just think about it, all the top ppvs are country vs country, race vs race. I don't usually give a **** about numbers, but I am interested to see how this does. I think Zab-PBF, and Hop-Taylor were the last decent ppv's with two black american fighters.

        The game done changed.

        • I think this PPV has the potential of reaching 1 million buys.

          • Great article! except maybe for the comment at the end about Americans growing tired of saying Asian and European names. From an outsiders view (im a New Zealander) thats a bit elitist for my liking. I know what you are getting at with the whole "american battle" thing and i can see it too and it'll be a great spectacle but the fact remains that the winner is not automatically crowned the best in the world at 147. Either guy would have problems with Pacquiao or Williams.

That wasnt a good part of the article i agree, especially with the huge contingent of european and asian americans who have been here 5 or 6 generations.

You left out the fact that he lost to Daniel Santos in 2004 @ 154. The Baldamir fight was in 2006. He had 2 losses exactly 10 years before and another 12 years before. My question to you is who did Margarito have on his resume at that point? Kermit? I think Baldamir being the linear champion and beating Gattie and Judah would give him the better resume on those two fights alone. If you are talking about who would be the better competition then thats a different story. I would think Margarito would be able to give a slightly better fight but he would be taught a boxing lession in my opinion. The only question people would have wouldnt have been about boxing skill it would Floyd have been able to take all his shots(quite possibly with plaster lol). Again I think Floyd would be able to outbox Margarito.

That's simply untrue. Mosley turned down fights with Cotto, Williams and Berto in 2009. He eventually signed to fight Berto, but he could have fought him, or Cotto, or Williams, in the summer of 2009 and turned them all down.

I thought Mosley wanted to fight Cotto? I remember Mosley calling about Cotto but Arum and co basically said Mosley already lost to Cotto. Thats what I remember. Let me know what info you have on this.
