I think the problem is we have much higher expectations of Floyd. He was groomed to be a champion and showed mad skills from the get-go. Therefore we yawn if he doesn't do amazing things and get mad if he doesn't take the toughest fights. He hasn't been taking the toughest fights and we have the right to be mad at him - I say this as a mostly former fan of Floyd (a little fandom remains but he's pretty hard to defend).

In a sense I can't argue with the TS. Because of our expectations on Floyd we would have been screaming bloody murder if he had taken the same path for his past FEW fights. But I think most of us don't mind the path he took from 135 to 147 - Corley, Bruseles, Gatti and Mitchell. That's not exactly murderer's row but we understand that he needed to work his way up to what is now his normal weight. He was such a beast at 130 and 135 that it was okay for him to take the easier path for a while. But by now we are quite fair to expect more of him, he's been at WW for a long time and it seems to suit his frame.

Manny on the other hand wasn't a big name just a few years ago. We didn't expect that much of him so his path to greatness makes us go "WOW!" While we could pick apart his opposition, it's a whole lot more impressive than if he'd just have stayed at 130.

And now that he's at WW he's taking on tough names. We can't argue with that.

However I'm still mad that they aren't fighting each other. I'm bothered by Pac's refusal to take random blood tests. But I won't discredit his opposition on his way to WW.

Floyd has called himself greater than Leonard, Robinson and Ali without backing it up.

Pac has destroyed opponents he was expected to get hurt by.

Good post but if Manny's Path of destruction isn't enough to make Floyd an ATG why is it enough to make him an ATG. Even if you reversed their resume's Pac (with Floyd's resume) would be considered great, Floyd (with Pac's resume) would be considered mediocre.

Yep. It's because of our expectations and what we think they are capable of. We already know that Floyd can give us "A+", so if we got "B-" out of him it would seem mediocre compared to his talent. From Manny we expected "B" and have gotten a solid "A", so he seems greater. It's all in the perception. You might be right in some ways, but that doesn't make other's perception wrong.

Pac only fought Diaz as a tune up at lightweight. He only moved up because Oscar freaking De La Hoya offered him a fight, who would turn that down? Floyd certainly didn't.

Ricky Hatton was clearly the best 140 pounder in the world, Devon Alexander wasn't even a damn champion yet and Bradley was not considered anywhere near Hatton at that time.

Pacquiao is not considered the best welterweight in the world because of beating Cotto. If Floyd had been fighting at 135 a year ago and then fought Cotto at 145 to test the waters, he would not be criticized at all. He's criticized for not fighting Cotto at all moron.

If Floyd had ever fought anyone the caliber of Marquez at 130 you could bring his name up, but he hasn't, and by the way Pac beat Marquez.

Get a life and stop trolling with insults towards Manny Pacquiao, you just make yourself look ****** and give *******s ammo to think all Floyd fans are ****** and ignorant.
I dont think your explanation is all that good, I simply feel its a case of his trainer knowing a faded fighter when he see's one. Oscar, Hatton, and Cotto where all same style faded opponents that he knew where ready to be taken out. Hell the entire boxing world knew they were ready to be taken out. If Floyd were fighting those same opponents they would of been dismissed as cherrypicked. Ya know, no different than how you all are doing Cintron now.

Without a doubt, Cintron would be considered a great opponent for Pac, but a poor choice for Mayweather.

Dude you can't compare both of them they are diffrent fighters but Manny never duck anyone who is thrwn at him. He never back out of a challenge especially if that is what the people want. Pacman is truely a great Champion he fights in the ring and not doing any malicious intent outside the ring to win the fight.

So in a sense, the Pac fans are barking up the wrong tree, if you want to compare Pacquiao's greatness then do it vs someone on his level. Floyd as everyone on this forum should agree, is held to a higher standard than Pac. So until Pac is held at the same standard dont insist he is better, more accomplished, or even more relevant to the sport.
