You do understand that the rest of the world is a lot bigger place than America dont you?
Nobody is dis*****g the fact that De la hoya is bigger in America than Mani.
You say nobody is on de la hoyas level, so are you trying to say that oscar is more famous around the world than Ali or tyson? If so that is laughable.
Not trying to be an ass but...wasn't the questions "Has Manny passed OSCAR in popularity??????
If so, what does Ali or Tyson have to do with the question or my answer??????
...Still not being an ass but Please do us a favor and stay on topic
No way, as far as popularity goes, Pac can't get to ODLH status, ever. 1st world countries' media just won't hype a non citizen (like Pac) enough. If you polled boxing fans and maybe sports fans, then maybe near to each other (I remember reading Bill Simmons as giving props to Pac)
As a side note, I think boxing, as a sport, was more popular before (circa Ali, SRL to Tyson era)than now and this also factor's in to any boxer's ability to be a mainstream idol now.
oscar would have created the perception of doing something for the sport unlike pacq who only does things to serve his own self interest. Hence ducking the random blood test to avoid being exposed one way or another. SO HELL NO!
no one can get close to oscar's mainstream popularity.
closest is floyd and manny in the u.s. right now but they are way behind oscar's level.
floyd talks a good game but rarely delivers a good fight.
manny delivers good fights but the guy can barely speak his own language let alone english.
What an ignorant statement. FYI, unlike the Mayweather family of drop-outs, Manny finished the equivalent of the GED and is currently taking college classes. He's also taking personalized English lessons. I bet he can speak better English than you can speak Tagalog.
I think Oscar's been around for so long and his PPVs were alot of hype
But I dont think he's a household name, not to the extent of Ali or Tyson, and Sugar ray Leonard. I think you can make a case of Holyfield being more of a recognizable icon than Oscar.
Will Manny get to that stage? I dont know. Nike is running campaigns off him and Jerry Jones wants him to fight in his stadium. He's on the right path. Maybe a decade after he retires we can measure it all.
