Well, he sure wasn't the most exciting, talented, skillful fighter, but did he deserve all the hate he received? I personally don't think so. It takes a whole lot to be a boxer, and even more to be a champion. Hate him or love him the FACT is he was both boxer and champion.

Ruiz would never have been "a champion" if there were one title per division though. True, plenty of others, including Jones, wouldn't have either, but Ruiz certainly wouldn't have been.

The fact that Ruiz gets to say he was a heavyweight champion is reason enough to dump all the promoters and sanctioning bodies and start up the international boxing league.

Don't know if anything like that would happen in the foreseeable future, but interesting points indeed!

I was never a big fan of Ruiz anyways, definitely not a very exciting fighter.

He'll be back, unfortunately. Hopefully, he doesn't get anymore nice paydays. He doesn't deserve them.

True, Johnny was a b ore to watch. But he did hold the title for quite some time. Give the man some credit. He was never in any drama outside the ring. He lived a quiet life. Im sure he is just disappointed. 2 middleweights beat him. Just because he fought the fight that folks wanted to see.

                  C'mon......"he held titles" ?
Those belts can't hold water !

Who cares what he was outside the ring ? Inside it, he was a horror show.
He fought illegally. He won in questionable fashion numerous times. He whines....& he has the biggest ******* in the world for a trainer.

The fact that John Ruiz is a ****in' millionaire from boxing is an unfunny joke.

Those who saw the fight on HBO know that Ruiz actually held a meeting with Jim Lampley and asked him what he could do to be more "ENTERTAINING" I mean come on that's pretty commendable and it cost him the fight! He changed his style for one of the biggest fights of his life and got his ass handed to him by doing so, BUT it should not be forgotten that he tried to make his fans happy (all three of them that were in the NEW YORK CITY crowd!) Damn, that's the messed up part about it, he came out to a song entitled Puerto Rico by Frankie Ruiz and people still booed him, a lot in fact, and that's where many Puerto Ricans live! He didn't even have the support from his own people! He truly was unliked!
