the only fighter who really abused clinching in the last decade was Ricky Hatton. Mr. Hold and Hit was a disgrace to the sport. You saw what happened in the only two fights where his opponent didn't let him hug all night. He got ANNIHILATED both times.

In other cases, it always hurts the fighter who's doing it. There's no doubt Dirrell would have won just about every round if he quit the nonsense clinching against Froch. He had won the first 6 rounds without it, then he started clinching and let Froch back in the fight.

So as long as you prevent holding and hitting, I think clinching is fine.

Hlding and hitting is a different topic we are talking about grabbing on and doing nthing with your hands. I rather see a guy hold on and work his free hand then just sit there and lean on his opponent like Wlad....Lefty

But I have problems with guys like Berto, Ruiz and Hopkins who just go overboard with it, although I let Hopkins go a little with it because he is pretty old and can't keep a high pace anymore.
        lmao
Its the main reason I refuse to watch certain boxers like: Hatton, Hopkins, Berto etc. It was only after the point deduction that the Berto Collazo fight became watchable in my opinion. I wish more boxers were like Hagler, Toney and Rid**** Bowe, who could fight on the inside

Hatton was a strange fighter, there is no excuse for a fighter being that limited in this day and age. Who here has seen Akiwande vs Lennox Lewis? Now that was shocking, Mills Lane was right to disqualify him as well in my opinion.

what Bernard Hopkins does (holding with one hand and hitting with the other) is ILLEGAL. those blows he lands in those clinches do not count. they are not scored.

that's why I laugh when people say Hopkins is some sort of master for sneaking in shots in clinches. Sure, they might tag the opponent, but none of them count in the eyes of the judges.

yeah but Akinwande had no chance of winning the fight. Mills Lane DQed him because he was creating the worst fight in history by not fighting. It's not like it was affecting Lewis at all.

If the guy isn't fighting, you stop the fight just like you would any fight.

it's all about roughing up his opponent and breaking him down. Not scoring points.

Most of us wish for the same thing but it's boxing, can't do anything about it.
