  • Where Is All The Muscle That Pacquiao Supposedly Packed On?

    2006 | 129 | Morales III | Ring Weight: 144 | Rehydration: 15 lbs
    2007 | 130 | Barrera II | Ring Weight: 144 | Rehydration: 14lbs
    2008 | 129 | Marquez II | Ring Weight: 145 | Rehydration: 16lbs
    2008 | 134½ | Diaz | Ring Weight: 147 | Rehydration: 12½ lbs
    2008 | 142 | De La Hoya | Ring Weight: 148.5 | Rehydration: 6½ lbs
    2009 | 138 | Hatton | Ring Weight: 148 | Rehydration: 10 lbs
    2009 | 144 | Cotto | Ring Weight: 149 | Rehydration: 5 lbs

144-149 = 5 lbs difference in three years.

The real difference is nowadays he isn't cutting so much weight. For the second Marquez fight, for example, Pacquiao would be cutting around 20 pounds (possibly more) from his walk-around weight. Less starvation appears to make Pacquiao a much better fighter. Is this abnormal? Personally, I don't think it's any cause for concern.

Excellent fighter with real chance of beating Floyd + Excellent fighter with greater resume than Floyd = Cheating scum appears to be the logic around here.

Those figures have been posted several times already, but the threads are usually buried by the "Pac must be hiding something" BS nonsense than is swamping the place atm.

          Excellent point though. Agree 100%.

Good post Sam.. BTW this has nothing to do with the topic but something I always wonder about. How come some fighters come in so light during weighins? Like why did Pac come in at 142 and go back up to 148.. Why didn't he just come in at 147 and put 1 lb back on? I've never had to make weight so can someone explain this?

You have a new account? I can't believe someone like you would get banned man. That's bizarre. But anyway, welcome back.

He never actually put on any weight over the past couple years.....the difference now is he is just cutting less off of his natural 150lb body since he has fought at higher weight classes.

EDIT: I completely misread your post. My bad. I'll leave the reply underneath anyway.

Most fighters are under the impression that they need to squeeze themselves down to the lowest weight possible and then rehydrate to give themselves an advantage over the opponent. I'm fookin' massive at 140!

I disagree that this is the way it should be done. The only two fighters I can think of right now who happen to fight close to their walk-around weight: Floyd and Manny. They also happen to be two of the very best fighters in the world. Both had more competitive fights at lower weights and have looked better (sometimes virtually untouchable) fighting closer to their more natural weight. More fighters need to take a leaf out of their books, IMO. Starving the body makes it weak. There's no arguing that. Also, less time spent in a sweat suit trying to get the weight off means more time spent in training camp perfecting your skills, working on the game plan, etc. Makes sense to me.
