Promoter balked at blood testing for Mosley in 2008

By J. Michael Falgoust, USA TODAY
Just last year, Golden Boy Promotions was against blood testing when one of its fighters, Shane Mosley, was asked to submit to it for a fight in Las Vegas.

Mosley, who admitted to taking designer steroids in 2003 inadvertently before a fight with Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya, consented to any form of drug testing before facing Zab Judah but the promoter objected.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told AP at the time that he'd consent to whatever testing that was required by Nevada State Athletic Commission and nothing more. The NSAC tests urine before and after fights but not blood at random like the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

A proposed March 13 superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather has fallen through over Olympic-style drug testing. Mayweather wanted the Filipino to accept random blood testing by USADA. Pacquiao agreed to three tests, including two before their bout.

"Whatever tests they want them to take, Shane will submit to that. We are not going to do other tests than the Nevada commission requires," Schaefer said. "The fact is Shane is not a cheater and he does not need to be treated like one."

Judah wanted testing immediately on Mosley as well as right before and after the bout. Judah was injured before the fight could take place and it was cancelled.

Mosley, who is facing Andre Berto on Jan. 30, is a potential future opponent for Pacquiao.

Double standards is not a crime. Looks bad, but that's all.

You're absolutely right. I highly doubt that MP can win a defimation lawsuit against them. Mayweather did not request anything unreasonable because at the end of the day a drug test is a drug test; he just asked for the best one available for the best fight that boxing has to offer. Pac played his cards all wrong, he should have just agreed to the blood test. Its like playing Spades and Manny and Arum just reneged bigtime!!

Hire Private investorgator to research every inch of Pac's life..

No where to hide or lie for Pac... By Pac going to the court only proves that he clean..
Why would they do any of that? Pac wouldnt be the one on trial.

He is the one suing Mayweather. All the court has to do is determine if Mayweather has said anything to slander or defamate Pacs career and from what I have read the only one who has said anything about steroids was Sr, or Paulie. All Floyd Jr. ever said was he wanted more rigid testing, he never said anything about Pac on roids. I dont see how Pacs team thinks they have a leg to stand on in this case. Maybe if its against Sr, or Paulie.

BUt another thing that make sPac look worse is now that he might fight Paulie. Hes gonna try to sue the guy who actually never said anything and is trying to hold the highest level of proffessional testing available, but wants to fight the guy who is running his mouth about Pac on roids? Team Pac has it twisted.

Pac is making people think he is guilty by not agreeing to take the test.

I dont think Pac is doing anything but by not taking the tests he does leave room for people to question it.

I really do not believe Pac has that much integrity because he cheats on his wife. If he cheats in one aspect of his life, what makes one think that he wouldn't cheat in another area of his life? Just my opinion.

Oh well, when they do meet Pac will most likely get the beating of his life (besides the public opinion beating that he is currently taking).

manny didn't reject the test. he just doesn't want a blood test too close to the fight. he was willing to take tests not done before and not even required by any sanctioning body.

gbp and floyd's camp made it seem like he rejected the tests outright.

arum was an idiot for getting his emotions get the best of him.
