Exactly. Throw out how bad Castillo looked, TOS looked just as bad minus the KD. All that matters is how Wlad looked here. And Wlad looked slow, uncoordinated, horrible footwork, not that good of defense, rushing himself, and making himself small against TOS. None of the old Wlad was there against TOS, and I was about to give up on him if he looked as poorly last night as looked against TOS. And I must say that Wlad looked really good in all of those aspects last night.
See, Manny indeed tought him something. Good for Manny, cause if he destroyed wlad,i would have find him and whooped his ass
How, exactly, does how Wlad looked against a guy whose only name fight was against a fat, past-his-prime Michael Moorer who wouldn't even fight tell us that Wlad is back?
I do like that Wlad is trimming down. I've long said on these boards that he needs to get closer to 230 so he isn't trying to carry too much mass.
I liked that he was sticking his jab and being more conservative with his punches.
I don't like that people are acting as if he took on a contender and is back. This guy is no better than the other corpses he has fought in his confidence-rebuilding campaign. Every time he has stepped up to a higher level of competition in the past couple of years, though, he has wound up on his ass. Even against a mid-level fighter like TOS.
I have no problem with Wlad taking a few easy fights, slowly working his way back up to fighting real boxers, but let's not act like this is more than it is, which is a victory against a nobody who didn't even want to fight.
A healthy, confident Wlad is good for the heavyweight division. I have no problem with him taking his time in getting back to the top.
I would just like to add - Sanders, Brewster, and even TOS charged at Wladimir and had success pressuring him. Castillo looked more like Wlad's pre-Sanders opponents.
Occasionally, Castillo did try to charge and throw the straight left and left hook. Ala - Sanders/Brewster. I think the fact that Castillo didn't connect on even on of those lefts means that Wlad might have figured that out. Hence Castillo getting his ass kicked.

lol yall cant be serious... he fought a x middle weight with no punching power.. he looked slow...he is the hardest puncher yet he fights scared
he cant fight that tentatively against a puncher cuz he STILL dont fight tall.. and he wont fght tall cuz punches will have less power its a catch22.. rahman ruiz tyson samuel peter sanders or anybody who can hit can beat him
The fight with TOS IMO was dirty and awkward because TOS was occasionally rushing and trying to get inside on Wlad like Sanders and Brewster(Hence the head butt). Not a clean and decisive performance like the Castillo fight. Anyway, that wasn't the point of my post.
well it is good for Wlad's confidence, but any neutral person could have seen that this was not much of a fight. It seemed that Castillo just turned up to receive his check, and I have questions regarding the knockdown....as to me it seemed that it could have been a dive......perhaps not, but he didn't seem too interested in fighting anyway and he wobbled his jaw when he was down, even though he got hit on the nose?!?!?
either way this win should do well for Wlad's confidence, however, he'll have to fight in the states if he wants to become a proper world champion....and in the states you won't be seeing such a "controlled environment" (quoted by manny steward himself).
The knockoluts was definately not a dive. Castillo got hit so hard with that straight right that his head snapped back.
