He certainly ducked Mosley to fight Cotto for a paper belt, that much is for sure.

Originally posted by S A M U R A I View PostLike Shawn Porter said, the catchweight wasn't to gain a physical advantage over Cotto, but a mental one. I agree with that entirely, because once you get the opponent playing to your rules it plants a seed of doubt in their mind. This is why I was so insistent on Pacquiao not signing to fight Mayweather for anything less than 50-50. Not even 49.9999999% is good enough.
The Cotto fight was all about psychological warfare, not only in the fight itself, but mostly in the buildup. Roach predicts a first round KO. What happens? Anything but. Instead, Pacquiao appears ineffective (deception) and gives away the first round or two to lull Cotto into a false sense of security in order to open him up, get him to commit, then punish his flaws.
So there's three things that to me are blatantly all about gaining a mental advantage:
* Catchweight. Only a pound less than what Cotto came in for against Clottey, but it was enough to get Cotto to playing by their rules.
* First round KO prediction, which led to...
* Doing the exact opposite and giving away the first round.

Lastly...
Hopefully this quote goes some way towards squashing the myth that Team Pacquiao put rehydration restrictions on fighters. That **** is unheard of in boxing as far as know, and I truly don't believe Team Pacquiao have ever capped the weight an opponent is allowed to rehydrate to.
RIP Dude.

Ring is shared by both fighters so there isnt any advantage to either fighter, And gloves is not the samething as a boxing organisation bending his own rules to suit one boxer, Boxing has its own rules and shouldnt be bend over for anyone.
You even twist my words by saying i said "something is wrong when a fighter can agree to a catchweight" lol..
No something is wrong when a fighter can use his star power to get a 147 title fight sanctioned at 145...That is where something is wrong.. It doesnt matter if its Chavez,Pacquiao or Mayweather or De la hoya that pull that BS..facts is its wrong and its one of the things that make boxing a dirty sport behind the scene.
Dude just stop. Your getting owned on here pretty bad. Don't let the little ***** cheerleaders hype you up. You got served pretty hard here.

How about this, Why persue a fight with a fighter you already beat at.... Lets wait... lets breath.... another catch weight? Why not fight cotto at the 154 limit? You can build Pac up to be the best of the best but at the end of the day it all comes down to a few simple logical facts. Cotto fought all those fight before he fought Pac. Another fact Cotto put damage on Pac even though he was out classed. I'm pretty sure the consenus is that Pac would get his ass beat if he fought Cotto with a decent trainer at a weight that Cotto felt comfortable with. Am I a cotto stan hell no! but the fact remains that when your the challneger you supposed to recieve the crumbs your given not dictate the terms. Pac is a product of proper match making and everyone with half a brain excepts that. I think its time you wake the hell up and realize that Steriods and one hell of a drug!

bottom line unless youve wrestled or boxed in highschool or the ams then you your talking out of your ass on the weight subject. i wrestled in highschool and the last 2 pounds can sometimes be incredibly tough. if you havent wrestled or boxed please dont respond. and ultimately if 145 catchweigt wasnt a big deal pacquiao wouldnt have needed to face a good opponent.
