he BEAT his first wife consistently to the point she committed suicide

I also thought it was real classy of Jack to never give Langford a well deserved rematch. sure, fight the guy when he weighs 150lbs, but not when hes a real heavyweight.
and after such a long career of striving to just get a title shot, Langford ended up dying blind in some shack. might have been a little different if Johnson would have actually given him a title shot.

Johnson never gave a damn about the black community, he only cared about himself.
    what a great person.

and his boxing career is incredibly overrated.

I believe I read that there wasn't major interest in a rematch. At the time Jack was the champion and the public wanted to see Johnson fight a white so he could lose his belt, to a white. The public didn't want to see it go to another black. I believe that is why there was no rematch. You are right about the other stuff.

bah, I have no doubt that Johnson could have made a fight with Langford, with or without public interest.
I mean, the man went exactly 2 years without a fight at one point. I mean wtf, he could have fought anyone at all and still have drawn some sort of interest, the hell was he doing at the time?

I flat out laugh at people that put Johnson in the top 5 HW of all time, and then never even mention someone like Harry Wills in their top 20(despite the fact that Wills fought and beat the same best wins of Johnson)
