There were stories that HBO was putting pressure on Floyd to fight certain fighters which encourged him to retire and brought about accusations that HBO was racist towards him.
The real reason mayweather retired?

I was rooting for Mayweather when he beat Oscar. But, even before the fight I knew Osac was old. And, I also thought Oscar was a part time fighter and a full time promoter.
And, I don't know how many people thought Oscar was going to KO Floyd. But, people also thought Oscar was going to KO Pac. But, that doesn't take away from the fact the Oscar was old in that fight too.Comment

doesn't change the fact that he didn't fight any of themHonestly, I believe that he can and would have beaten either Cotto or Margarito.
He simply wanted bigger stars. He wants to have big fights and get the most money. He's a business man before he's a fighter. It's not a flaw, for the fans it might be, it's simply the way some think. I don't blame him for his own personal priorities.
He wanted all the fighters in the division to beat eachother up, but that's wha all fighters technically bank on. He wanted them to be bigger stars. That's why Cotto would have been the guy he preferred out of Manny and Cotto, because it's an easier fight, but it's also a big fight if he won. And a fight he can get the A-side of far more than he could with Manny. But, I don't think he feels he can't beat Manny.
For better or worse, he honestly thinks he can beat ANYONE. It's not a a scam. He believes he's that great.
He wants only big stars to prove it again. So, he retired to let them all become it or get forgetten. Some did it, Manny. Some are forgotten, Margarito. Trust, if he beats Manny clearly, in any way, it's either a rematch, or a fight with Mosley next. If Mosley loses and if Cotto comes back strong, he'll fight him next.Comment

Cotto beat Quintana on Dec 2006 for the WBA WW Championship in 5rds and then defeated Urkal in March 2007. As you have said, check your facts first before you flap your lips. And why would that matter in the first place if Cotto did only had 1 fight as a WW which clearly he didn't. But yet you would justify Floyd fighting a lightweight that had to get 14lbs fatter and had never fought as JWW before and Floyd came in as a WW, now why is that, care to explain.

It was very strange he bailed out of a hot division with cotto, cheato, mosley and williams all looking for fights, only he knows the real reason but its probably fair to say he didnt fancy fighting any of those guys, pity really as we as fans didnt get to see potentially great fights, yeah they would have be hard fights but floyd could have cemented his legacy right there, i thought all those guys were on his hit list when he first came back, but that list seems to have got lost somewhere too, pityLast edited by MUNG; 12-24-2009, 03:06 PM.Comment
