Pacquiao-Cotto sold out their tickets immediately, over 1.25 million PPV buys in the United States and guess what...it was a fight between two FOREIGNERS that DID NOT trash-talk!! If anything, Mayweather, an american and Marquez, a Mexican should have outdrew Pacquiao-Cotto in every way, but it didn't!!
trash talking ALONE doesn't sell fights, and everyone can agree that if you have 2 fighters with great fanbases, the fight should sell. problem is, despite being the best current mexican fighter, marquez has never been a draw, and despite the big payday, a reason marquez took this fight was b/c had he beat mayweather, he was hoping it would elevate him to chavez and oscar status in his own country. this fight was sold on mayweather's name alone, and it still came close to manny-cotto, who both have tremendous fanbases. in all honesty, i think ppl were expecting manny-cotto to probably do double the numbers floyd-marquez would do.....a lot of ppl were surprised when mayweather-marquez did 1 million.

that being said, having to "good guys" with fanbases does well, but nothing compares to having a "good guy" with a tremendous following, versus a "bad guy" with a tremendous following, and the numbers will represent that. the fight is still over three months away, and EVERYBODY is talking about it.

That is not going to happen. The fans of the loser will throw every single excuse March was too soon. And, imagine if Pac stops Floyd you know those steroids allegation is going to come out. Nuthuggers are idiots.

Why would the fans of the winner make an excuse?

David Diaz said it best when he remarked “we all hear and we all know Manny has fast hands but until you get into the ring you don’t know how fast. I think people underestimate his footwork and his lateral movement and what catches his opponents tremendously off-guard is that Manny can throw a power-punch when one shouldn’t be able to do it. Most boxers have to have both feet planted on the canvas but Manny can do it off one foot and has knocked people out that way.”
Exactly what Shawn Porter was saying.

                      Really a great fight
And neither one is shot and on the decline.

The numbers of De La Hoya-Mayweather prove otherwise, my friend.
If Floyd made an ass of himself, it obviously worked wonders to sell that fight.

Manny striking Floyd during a press conference would be wishinful thinking to say the least. I'd give Freddie more of a chance at doing something wild like that.

But if Manny did "something" a little out of character during the promotions it will only help him in the popularity department.

That might be what will keep Manny from doing anything that might be embarrassing.

If a record setting 2.4 million buys in PPV revenue is any indication, it's that trash talking, and one that generates a controversial buzz, does indeed make selling a fight all the more effective.

                      manny's a great fighter, but he's not ******.
No need for Manny to act like Floyd. That would be foolish and he'll lose a large part of his fan base while he's at it.

He can be diplomatic about it while making it entertaining. You know?
Just go with the flow and have fun with it. No need to 'take it personal' as he sometimes says.

I'm sure the fans would appreciate it and will look forward to the fight even more so.

It's called marketing and salesmanship, fellas.
