I hope it doesn't become a cycle like that too, otherwise I won't be defending it lol

I don't think he's being ducked. And he may be a name to boxing fans, but I'm wondering how they sell a fight like Tua-Arreola that to the public, this guy has just come out of retirement. Now if he had 2 big KO wins on his belt people might be interested, regardless of opposition.

I dunno, you may be right that networks won't invest without good opposition, but I think this fight will be a once-off, and sort of a chess-board move towards something better.

Tua is contracted to Maori tv, who are only a small TV station with a limited budget, thus reflected in the choosing of Bruce Seldon as an opponent. Once Tua Ko's Seldon, he's contracted for one more fight, then no doubt we will see him in with bigger name opponents.

Tua fighting Oquendo would be a decent fight against a decent name and very winnable for Tua. Problem is, David requires a rather large size purse that doesn't leave much for a perspective opponent. Cedric Kushner doesn't have deep pockets and still needs to make some money off of a show. As for bigger fights, Tua prices himself out which for now, I understand. He needs to stay busy, albeit against better opposition than Seldon. But being busy is a good start. If David gets on TV his next fight after this which should be around May if he's smart then he's on to something. If that's not the path he takes, then he is just wasting his time. We'll lose interest very quick in David Tua.

                News coming out of NZ.

Heavyweight boxer David Tua's next three fights are to be staged in the United States and New Zealand.

Tua is about to set out on Tua De Force, a three-fight campaign which he is calling his continued offensive to win the world heavyweight championship title.

Ranked third by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO), the New Zealander's first fight is on February 7 against former World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Bruce "The Atlantic City Express" Seldon in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Tua's US-based promoter, Cedric Kushner, hopes that a series of successful fights will help elevate Tua in the rankings with the principal world sanctioning bodies.

"Fighting regularly obviously helps the process of conditioning and also raises your profile, because you are prominently in the limelight for extended periods," Cushner said today.

Tua's second fight, scheduled for New Zealand in March, will be against Friday Ahunanya, who beat Shane Cameron in Auckland last year.

His last fight will see Tua head back to the US for a fight in Hawaii, with the opponent yet to be announced".

                      Mismatch

I could understand him fighting Seldon 15 years ago, but what is the point of that now. he can't find sparring partners?
