To me the fight looked like a premature stoppage. RJJ had his hands up and they werent budging, so isnt that defending yourself in boxing terms?
30 more seconds is all it might have taken to regain his composurre is how i see it.

But the fact that RJJ isnt complaining about it, lets me know i shouldnt think about it too much.

Looking at that KO again it's obvious it hit him behind the ear.

I remember Enzo Macc putting away Dennis Hobson with a similar shot. Getting hit there really seems to end fights.

Legitimate win for Danny Green, unfortunate that Roy got hit in such a strange place - but this is boxing.

I don't think you can write off Jones yet, it was a bit of freak ko, he never had his legs back after the knockdown and wasn't with it enough to know that the ref was looking to jump in.

i wonder what the odds were for this fight. i could see roy betting against himself for a 1st round ko. he would make a killing.

Not the first time in boxing.

I could see roy having someone put up a ton of money for a green ko 1. Who would have thought danny green scoring a ko 1 on roy? the odds would be huge.

Roy in the later stages of his career & knows that he wont be getting any more big pay days could have set this up & cashed out.

That punch was nowhere near the same as the glenn johnson punch to the side of the head.

          nowhere near.

          roy cashed out.

He went down hard and his legs were totally gone. You could see that when the referee broke the clinch. If there was anything shady going on then Roy must have been in on it as it was his reaction to getting decked that forced the stoppage.

I believe it was totally legit, unfortunately

He looked like he was able to continue though. His legs werent like Trevor Berbick against Tyson. Now that was gone as he coulndt control his legs. Lennox Lewis when he was decked by Oliver Mcall seemed worse as wel.

This cost him the hopkins fight, where he would earn 10 million dollars.

Jones got crushed ,green smashed him...thats all it is.

I don't think the name made any difference, and it definitely was a premature stoppage. This is a boxing match, not a tickling contest. Yes, he was eating body shots, but his hands were not budging, he was protecting himself.

I don't buy the 'no punches thrown back' argument either. You have to let it go more than 30s (1/6 of a round). Green was gassing himself out a bit there, and the next few rounds could have been interesting.

                    Really weak refereeing.

I'll give you an alternative: because it was RJJ the ref stepped in sooner. Nobody wants to be known as the guy responsible for a legend getting seriously hurt. It gave the ref an itchy trigger finger and he couldn't wait for Jones to start eating solid punches, because at that point he was just catching a few uppercuts on the forehead.

It was kind of hard to see, maybe to the side of the ear, which can take your legs away quickly. The stoppage seemed a little premature, but the thing is that Jones wasn't firing back at all. He didn't even throw his quick short hooks on the inside like he usually does.

Just sad to see Jones get stopped like that, but he should of hung em up a while ago.
