Not sad at all for me, personally id only give him a 30% chance of beating roy in his prime, but i can perfectly understand him saying he wants to get well paid for the effort if it came around, unlike others

If that's the case I don't understand as all the info I provided is objective and not up to debate. The debate is regarding how to interpret the info.
Debunked - as in, the thread title is false. I think your post - not necessarily the title - was objective.

The only objective comment is Those fights never happened.

        That's it.

When you add stuff like "they could have happened" or "Jones ducked..." or "avoided" then you are NOT being objective. Sorry bro. The fact that you think the Mclellen fight could have happened at all is an indicator of this seeing as that by the best time for that fight to happen came up he was long since paralyzed.

Nevermind Nigel Benn's empty video challenges of fighting Roy (but only in me backyard!) and then his later retractions saying he was too old and didn't want to fight him.

        Or Collins empty posturing.

        Give me a break.

If you want to spin it that's fine, but be honest that that's what you are trying to do. Like someone else this thread could be done times 30 for Kessler (and I'm sure it has been ) and that would be very very ugly.

My problem is this and I wish one Joe fan would think about this:

What did TARVER DO to fight Roy? He stepped up beat everyone Roy beat chased him down, hounded him, chased him at press conferences beat the piss out of all contenders and became a #1. Willing to sign the contract on any terms to fight Roy (and even then Roy made concession to HIM coming down to lhw to fight him).

What did Joe do? Meekly mention him for a long time. Sit on his trinket WBO belt for 10 years fighting fringe contenders in the Welsh National Ice Rink. Everyone once in a while meekly talking trash about Jones or Hopkins. Then in other interviews expressing that he knew he'd get beat, wanted to get paid to get beat, or was in awe of a guy like Jones. I love how oh about 2006-7 Joe says Jones is washed up and not worth fighting (correct statement seeing as he's been CRUSHED twice already and nearly killed in the ring by Tarver and Johnson AND Retired) but later on changes his story, declares himself a LEGEND KILLER and says "Roy didn't want to fight me ever".

Tarver got it done. Joe didn't. Frank Warren even says Joe did not trust in his own abilities nor did Joe's team. Yeah I'm sure Roy was running scared from the Ice Rink Champion.

          • Leave him alone, he got knocked out round one by Danny Green.

            • I think Nigel Benn said in his book he wouldn't have been able to beat Roy.

              • What was the context in which Joe said that in 2003? For all I know he could have said that in an article that was to praise RJJ. Joe was and is a good guy.

After RJJ had beaten Ruiz it was highly unlikely that he would ever fight Calzaghe so I'm pretty sure that Joe, or any other world class fighter for that matter, would say that they deliberately would duck another world class fighter.

                • Oh great, another quote, here we go. Curtis McCormick from boxing talk chirps in now. Well, ive seen calzaghe interviewed telling people he wanted jones and 40,000 people in wales and he was gutted he couldnt get it. So there you go. He obviously wasnt prepared to travel to fight jones but wanted him at home.

I see. Oh yeah the term 'ducked' is really just an NSB phrase. It's about the fighters that are not on RJJ's resumé. Not neccesarily ducks, but for whatever reason those fights never happened.
