That fight was cool from the 10th on, when Chris was chasing that perp around the ring, landing hard power shots. He can fight. He just goes through the motions on auto-pilot.

Against Booker, he came back 'roided up, I mean he overlifted, and his arms were so tight we was getting massages from his corner in the first third of the fight. If he was fighting a real opponent, he would have been in trouble.

So far he's beaten a fat cruiserweight and a heavyweight with no reflexes. Even his win over Jirov doesn't look that great since Jirov lost to Mesi and Moorer when he came to heavy.

Toney gets injured too often anymore and isn't a true heavyweight. He may pick up a belt and a couple big paydays, but he won't be remembered for his heavyweight career. That'll be a footnote on his career...

For every Toney fan there are two Toney haters...especially on this site. And many of his fans are fair-weather fans so that doesn't really count.

Don't try to take anything away from that Jirov win...that's 3 classes above his starting weight and Jirov was the KING of cruiser. 33-0...Toney really was the catalyst that ****ed over Jirov. He got 12 rounds of thorough beating. Had Jirov stayed at cruiser he would still probably only have 1 loss on his record...

The fact that Toney is NOT a true heavy is what makes what he's doing more interesting. I can't name one other HW that I like other than Toney and Vitali. Should James beat Ruiz (which he should although I admit, Ruiz has a way of grinding out wins) and he goes on to fight a good, spirited fight against Byrd or Vitali and lose...then I think his career at HW will certainly be remembered. I think he could beat Byrd but his chance against Vitali is significantly more remote.

We'll see what happens in the Ruiz fight.

These comments about how Toney's not a Heavyweight are completlely without merrit.

He's taller than Tua, and heavier than Byrd.

Toney is a Heavyweight now, period.

If he looks dominating beating Ruiz, that makes a statement, as a list of Heavyweights have struggled with Ruiz.

If that's the case, that probably lead to a fight with Byrd, and I think you'd find the odds would be very even in that fight.

So, obviously, Byrd does have some marketability at hvywt, if he's facing the right opponent.

Toney does bad against fighters like Byrd that are quick on their feet and fight defensively. Toney would have to pressure Byrd and be the agressor against the elusive Byrd and that is totally not his game. However Toney probably has the advantage in punching power and Nothing Byrd has in his arsenal would be able to hurt Toney.

Toney's is at his best against fighters like Jirov or Holyfield that will come in and want to fight. He would be better off fighting somebody like Moore, Golota, or even one of the Klistko's especially since if he won it woudl prove to all his detractors he is a legit heavyweight whereas if he beat Byrd it might not quell all his detractors.
