This is true. My other point a while back however was that Calzaghe was at least closer to his prime than the other two so there was an advantage on his part. Calzaghe in many ways was like Hopkins in his mid-30's: still very good but past his best. For Jones: SHOT...no debating that.
Either way, I've put more blame on the Hopkins for his fight with Calzaghe not coming off much sooner because he could have moved up if he wanted. Reasons why he probably didn't, but still the ball was in his court since Joe couldn't move down.
But on the same point, the fault is more with Calzaghe for not moving up years ago to face Jones Jr.
That's boxing. All fighters can be picked apart, including those three, in many ways but all three are HOF fighters that were good.
The fights were about money more than getting any legacy points.
Kessler and Lacy might be his two best wins as far as prime fighters (who both held belts) that were seen as the better fighters by many, yet lost. There was enough in those two fights to solidify his ability.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 11-28-2009, 05:29 PM.Comment

And those are just the fighters of today. Larry X is trying to act like there were no decent fighters for Calzaghe to tangle with in his younger days. There are a ton of them. Johnson (which you already have listed), Echols, Montell Griffin, Reggie Johnson, Clinton Woods, Julio Gonzalez, Antonio Tarver, and Ottke of course. None of those fighters are great. But they are better than all the guys that Calzaghe fought. Joe fought a lot of fighters either coming off losses or had a very short winning streak and never did anything meaningful afterwards. That is inexcusable.Calaghe looked like a ****ing spring chicken........
at 36........
He wasnt shot you ****ing clown....
He was the leader in boxing as far as throwing punches...you lost ur ***ing mind..no shot fighter does that.
Stop being a britain kiss ass to get green k....
Calzage best wins are Kessler....a 43 year old Hopkins and a 40 year old Roy Jones.

Yes, and arrogant with it. The worst type of response -- a dumb post that is made with total arrogance.

Dawson was only a mere up and comer at the time. Johnson doesn't make money at all. Abraham was at middleweight when Joe was at light heavy. Who the hell was Ward and Dirrell during Calzaghe's reign? Froch hadn't even fought anyone decent until after Calzaghe beat Roy. Taylor didn't even fight above middleweight until he fought Lacy. Williams was still parading at at 147-160. Joe Calzaghe NEVER fought below 167. Your logic is extremely flawed.Comment
