I believe Calzaghe would have had the same troubles against the Kessler Ward beat. Joe never went into a fight with a set strategy, he makes it up as he goes along. In that regard he is far superior to Kessler, who doesn't know how to adapt and is one-dimensional. Ward on the other hand had been planning a gameplan with his camp for months against Kessler and knew every move of Kessler's by the time he went into the fight, which allowed him to dominate from round 1.
Calzaghe would have his troubles in the early rounds and then wipe out the mid/late rounds as he did when they actually fought.
