He could go on to become a great fighter, maybe even an all-time great, also to consider is that ward is by far the worst style clash for kessler in the tourny, let it play it out, lets, see what happens before you idiots jump to the conclusion that kessler is a bad fighter.

Things to consider also are that fact that if you have followed calzaghe's career with enough attention you would know that he was definitely in physical decline by the time he fought kessler, he was maybe a smarter fighter, but I believe the joe that fought kessler was slower, and had awful hand trouble in comparison to the fighter that fought, eubank, reid, brewer, woodhall, mitchell.

Say what you will about the hopkins fight, you an bring up his age...the fact that it was a close decision...whatever. Fact is some of b-hop best performances came just before that fight, and even after. He has beaten some great fighters, some very one-sided (tarver, pavlik) but yet he couldn't dominate calzaghe, if anything he looked physically tired, was faking injury to buy himself time. I didn't see that when he fought tarver, pavlik, wright, and even the taylor losses.

This should tell you that joe calzaghe is a great fighter. I think the strongest calzaghe fans will tell you he has a modest resume, but to say his legacy is shattered because of what happened is beyond nonesense.
Completely agree with this post, good points.

Calzaghes resume=Hopkins resume, if Hopkins is a atg than Calzaghe is one too.

Thanks dude...I have to say though that prime for prime I take b-hop over calzaghe every day of the week and twice on sunday, he is one of the best defensive fighters of all-time and top 5 middleweight of all-time in my opinion. But Joe is definitely a great fighter, who had a really hard style to beat. Joe would have been competitive with any mw fighter in any era.

          Hopkins resume is much better.

          Kelly Pavlik(prime)
          Antonio Tarver(prime)
Trinidad(prime, shure he started his career at welterweight but people grow you know, he had unified belts at light middle and won a belt a middlweight and was the favorite to win)
ODLH(slightly over his weight but still he had won belts at light mid and a belt a middleweight)
Glen Johnson(prime undeafeted at the time)
Winky Wright(over his weight but still a good win)
          William Joppy(prime)

          compare that to slappys resume:

Roy Jones Jr(40 years old and totally shot)
Bernard Hopkins(who was past prime and 44 years old)
Mikkell Kessler(an average fighter who got beat up way worse by Andre Ward)
Jeff Lacy(a hyped up c level fighter)
          Eubank(weight drained and past prime)

          IT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Kelly Pavlik: moved up two weight classes and was sick
Antonio Tarver: past prime, looked crap in Jones III, weight drained after losing 45 lbs
Trinidad: cheating his whole career, without wraps didnt have the skill or power to compete at mw. Without wraps his best win was mayorga who it took him 9 rounds to get rid of.
ODLH: just no, started fighting at lw, got a gift against sturm, basically quit against bhop and achieved nothing at mw.
Glen Johnson: best weight maybe smw, where he lost to the legendary Omar Sheika
Winky wright: moved up two divisions, should of won fight and Hopkins should of got dqed anyway
Joppy: damaged goods after being handwrapped by tito

Hopkins did manage to beat the invincible Hakkar and legendary Mercado so maybe he does still edge it.

Hopkins and Calzaghes resume are basically equal, when Hopkins loses to a shot Jones who Calzaghe has already beat, this is what it will look like:
                  Calzaghe>Hopkins

Ok so by your logic Calzaghe shoudln't get any credit for beating Hopkins since Hopkins started at middleweight. That Hopkins only beat smaller fighters is a myth, fighters grow just like normal people. almost no fighter stays at the same weightclass his whole career. Felix Trinidad was a middleweight(and no he didn't cheat thats just you making **** up), ODLH was a light middleweight atleast.
