Well put. I wonder if Sr wouldn't made those steroid accusations if Pac was black. I also wonder how many Floyd fans would still be Floyd fans if Pac was black. I understand that African Americans generally dominate sports, but you gotta give props where props are do.

Thats Joe Baksi, a heavyweight from the 40's and 50's. Solid pro but not top class, but he was in the first fight I ever saw live (my father took me I was around 8) where he nearly killed Freddie Mills. I thought he was the toughest man I ever saw and ignored my Dad telling me about some Joe Louis fellow
Like I say not the best fighter you ever saw but a nostalgic thing, and yes he was a tough guy.Comment

Will say one thing that to me is the joy of these forums is that an old white fossil like myself can chat about this kind of stuff with a young black guy, we might agree to differ but we at least give each other the respect to listen to each others views.
I think its healthy and it does me a lot of good and keeps me in touch, mind I still don't like trash talking

I was going to give props to whatever black fighters you listed but then you make it sound like black american fighters arent getting their due respect and are subjected to some kind of racial profiling that noone else is.
That's what I took issue with.
All you have to do is look at the list of all time greats. It's filled with black american fighters. In boxing it's black americans that set the standard. And when a fighter that isnt african american reaches or exceeds those standards it's african american fans that get all butthurt and subject them to double standards in my opinion.
Look at great european fighters. African American fans are so quick to label them bums because they fight in Europe and not in America even though all the top fighters in the upper weights are from europe, not america.
Look at Latin fighters. African American fans are so quick to label them brawlers with alot of courage but little skill because they would rather slug it out at times and ignore defense.
Look at the asian fighters. African american fans are so quick to call asian fighters like Pacquiao a midget even though he's been the same height or taller than almost all of his opponents except for delahoya and morales.
sterotyping a whole race of people makes you at least as racist as the people you're accusing.Last edited by Calilloyd; 11-24-2009, 06:20 PM.Comment

Most fight fans don't really care about race. Are you basing this on the fact that the media and fans seems to favor Pac over Mayweather?Comment

I love the trash talk...in sports it has always been. Any sport, there is trash talk and feels good and brings the best out of your opponent and yourself. A lot trash talkers talk ish to amp up themselves...like an andrenaline rush. And it is even more pleasing when your oppronent can do nothing about it to shut your mouth...i love it!Will say one thing that to me is the joy of these forums is that an old white fossil like myself can chat about this kind of stuff with a young black guy, we might agree to differ but we at least give each other the respect to listen to each others views.

What does a persons skin pigmentation have to do with anything?? Why can't a boxer just be identified as a person instead of an ethnicity.Comment

I'm assuming you've never read Carnivores post or the Kessler fans who send out racist red K messages to those who felt Andre Ward was impressive.Comment

Amen to that, there are enough sports to follow where either white, black, latin or asians dominate to follow if that is important to you. Boxing is a multi racial sport and is stronger for it.Comment
