  • Black American Fighter Appreciation Thread

Our fighter rarely get the benefit of the doubt in any situation. We have arguably made boxing the sport it is today. Some of us have not only mastered the science but we've developed our own styles of hand to hand combat in which few will ever be able to mimic successfully.

My problem is because we've done so well in this sport our fighter are largely underrated and hated passionately by other countries and races of people. Most races had lost interest in boxing due to our dominance over the years and as soon as they get 1 good contender they act as if this contender is above all.

People fault black champions for being ****y or having ego's but rarely think about the dilemma a black champion faces when he can't do PPV #'s. When a black champion completely cleans out his division and moves up in weight where he continues to dominate nobody gives a **** but when a fighter of another race does the same they act like it's the reincarnation of Jesus.

Right now the boxing world has a lot of good fighters from all over the world stepping up to the world stage and they are doing great. I love the way Manny fights and while I enjoy Kessler's style more than Joe's nobody can deny what Joe has accomplished. Hatton was not a great boxer but he was a beast of a fighter, but it bothered me how nobody was in Vegas supporting Floyd when the Brits invaded.

Look at RJJ. As dominate as he was everytime his name was brought people would claim he was overratted...smh

Anyways enough talk what do you think ?

    Floyd

    Shane

    Bernard

    Roy

    Pernell

    Ray

    Mike

    Ronald

    Muhammed

I could go on but I'll leave some for you !!!

BTW Everybody is welcome to this thread , this isn't about being better or worse, I just think we deserve some props from everybody !!!

    Pernell Whitaker is the man!!

I have to disagree with some of the things you say. The sport hasn't died down because of blacks dominating the sport. IMO it has died down because of the boring fights throughout the years. I think your referring to Mayweather and Pacquiao, Floyd getting no respect and Manny being treated as a god, is because of their styles Mayweather being too defensive and Manny being too offensive which style you think people want to see more? Mayweather is talented there's no doubt, but he takes no risk. One more thing wasn't boxing more popular when guys like Sugar Ray leonard, ALI, Foreman, Hearns, Hagler etc who happened to be black dominated the sport? Skin color has nothing to do with it.

Way to turn something positive into a racial thread TS. Way to think that black american fighters are under some kinda opression or double standard that noone else is subjected to.

I dunno I'm white and I followed Holyfield's whole career with passion and was really upset to see his demise. Never had as much interest in a white fighter...
