If you take a person who has never watched boxing and show them a Pacquiao fight and a Mayweather fight, odds are they would like Pacquiao more and if you want good PPV numbers you need someone who can please anyone.
De La Hoya's Biggest fight was vs Floyd Mayweather...2.5

    Pac & Oscar did 1.25.......Pac & Cotto did 1.25....

If everyone tuned in to see Oscar vs Floyd then why did Pac with his HUGE fan base and Oscar with his HUGE fanbase do much less than Oscar & Mayweather?

Marquez had nothing to offer. Its not Mayweathers fault Marquez couldnt land and got outsmarted. I think Mayweather just likes to box his opponents and break them down, why would he come and blow out Marquez? He was out of the ring for almost 2 years. He had to get rounds in. He was fighting the #2 P4P fighter in the world and he worked on a lot of mechanics in the fight. He was in cruise control the entire time. Marquez couldnt figure him out.

Oscar was a huge favorite to win against Pac, people thought he was going to destroy the little figher. There were people I talked to that almost werent interested in it because they thought it would be a 1 sided victroy for DLH, but it went exactly the other way. Then he fought Hatton at Hattons weight class and knocked him out, went back up to WW and faced almost the most dangerous fighter at the weight class and again stopped him. The fact that he keeps destroying bigger fighters is making his market abilty bigger every fight. Also think about the Mayweather and DLH are both from America, and boxing is alot about country pride. The general pubic would rather want to see 2 americans fight than a guy who really can't speak all that well of English, I don't believe that at all but you have to realize that is true for the casual fan.

I think The World awaits did hurt PBF's marketability! He should have fought Oscar instead of running from him for the whole 12 rounds. I gurantee you guys if Floyd didn't run from Oscar he would have left a better image of himself and gained some fans.

At the time I think it did, over 2.4 mil bought the fight and it didnt live up to the hype. I thought Hatton/Floyd would do more than it did and I think it didnt because of the Oscar fight, but if you add the UK buys, Hatton/Floyd did well over 2 million. But Floyd has ressurected his PPV appeal as evidenced with the Marquez numbers.
