In Memory Of Roy Jones Jr.

The way I saw it, Roy's hand speed is still there (he threw some combos in the third to illustrate that), but his reflexes to avoid oncoming punches are not what they used to be. He was able to side-step brilliantly, off the ropes, in two occassions and poked a few on Johnson's head, which Johnson did not respect. Most of the time Roy just covered up with his arms instead of try to slip punches to counter. Seldom did he counter and during the times that he did, he saw that his power punches lacked the sting that would make Johnson pay attention. Right in the first, while Johnson did his flurry, Jones smacked a big left to Johnson's right ribs. It did not even make Johnson wince. In the third we saw flashes of Roy's brilliance but, unaccountably, he did not sustain it. On the many times that ref Clancy put them back in the middle of the ring, Roy failed to make Johnson pay often when Johnson rushed him. Instead, Roy just went back to the ropes and covered up.
I'm thinking now,was it not only his defensive reflexes that have gone but the power in his mitts as well? Some posted that his heart is gone as well. When he saw that Johnson was not fazed, did Roy give up?

He seemed like he gave up to me. As the fight went on he spent more time looking at the crowd and winking and smiling then anything else.Originally posted by grayfistThe way I saw it, Roy's hand speed is still there (he threw some combos in the third to illustrate that), but his reflexes to avoid oncoming punches are not what they used to be. Roy Jones engineered his entire career for maximum return on minimal risk, he paid for it last night. I guess Johnson didn't see enough of Jones' music videos, television commercials and NIKE print ads to understand he was in over his head.
Jones was 10% skill + 40% physical ability and 50% hype. Johnson was probably listening to PE backstage......

I have some unfinished business w/ Cleary23. All that **** you was talkin' remember the posts you had up, how you thought we were all full of **** cause we picked Tarver over Roy on a rubbermatch, and how you would taunt us "for not knowing anything about boxing" where the f**k are you now? Step up! The only thing Roy Jones Jr. can tear up these days is Cleary's a**hole. I have one question for you since you are the BOXING GURU. Do you still think Roy Jones Jr. will win and not only win, you said it yourself Knockout Tarver in a now not so possible rubbermatch? C'mon genius lets see what comes out of your mouth this time besides Roy Jones's cum (lmao). Too bad your old posts didn't carry over to this new format , so everybody could read how ******ed your analysis was or lack thereof. Remember the time I said you should get kicked the f**k out, well do yourself a favor and have a graceful exit before you get hit with another one of my barrages and go join your Daddy ROY and you can both be bedside buddies in whatever hospital he's in and talk about the beatings you both have taken!Last edited by rsl; 09-26-2004, 11:09 AM.Comment
