We got plenty of bright looking stars on the horizon. ****, Erik Morales has ALOT of career left. Manny Pacquaio too. Danny Green I think is gonna make alot of noise. Tarver is gonna be fun to watch. Toney is ALWAYS fun to watch. Kassim Ouma.

The gap Jones left will soon be filled.

I was saddened when i saw naz losing his reflexes and even more saddened seeing jones lose his.
Jones can never come back, age has taken one of his most important assets.
I'm not going to watch the fight tonight, he was the greatest boxer i ever saw (in my time) and i can't bare to see him like he was last night...goodbye RJJ
When I saw the KO I couldn't believe it cause Roy actually saw the punch coming. He turned to get his shoulder in the way but he couldn't move fast enough to avoid the punch. He must have gotten old over night cause the Jones I remember wouldn't have been hit by that punch. It wasn't like Tarver's punch that Roy didn't see coming. I was so pissed that I couldn't talk for an hour after watching the fight. I always thought Jones would be smart enough to retire before he let himself go like this.

It was a shot on side of the head. Those shots sometimes just put your lights out.

What makes it worse is the people like cynical who just spout all kinds of hate about him. Like he did something to them personally.
I don't like Jones and never have.
I am extremely happy to see him out and hopefully he retires.
I don't want to hear his **** anymore and I don't want to see him either.

I'm eating crow, now because I asserted before the fight that it would be a mismatch. Now, I think what I said was more like a wish that it would be rather than a declaration of certainty. It was more of an an expression of a desire for the fight to be a mismatch so that Roy can come back.

I continue to believe, however, that, even with Johnson's early flurries, it was less Johnson who made it a match (and not a mismatch) than Roy's greatly diminished reflexes. I also am aware that Johnson is a tough cookie, having been stopped only once (by Hopkins) in all of his 9 losses. That toughness showed in the way Roy's power punches were unable to stop Johnson on his tracks. But the Jones version of two or three years ago, would have dismantled Johnson's assault without a sweat.

I should have seen it coming: Tarver losing their first fight more than Jones winning it and Tarver taking out Roy in the second round of the second meeting claiming he never saw the punch coming. Roy has become old at 35.
Looking back at the greatest ones in the history of the Light Heavyweight division, I see that the Old Mongoose, Archie Moore, was so avoided like the plague that he didn't get a crack at--and win!-- the championship until he was 39 years old! Back to the present, Hopkins is 39 and is looking forward to a successful 20th defense. These facts do not diminish what Roy has done. They only make his imminent departure even sadder. They make us wish Roy lasted longer.

If they play taps and sound the dirge on Roy's career soon, those will be for a career the likes of which are seldom seen.

Looks like it is the end of an era, the end of the era of the most talented fighter i have ever seen, i will miss him very much.
I don't know it's hard to feel sad for guys that make between 10-30 million dollars in some of their fights. Just like Sugar Ray Leonard said when he was a guest on Johnny Carson when he was asked by Mr. Carson 'So when do the wounds heal? and Sugar Ray answers "When the check clears". Don't get me wrong though, I give 'em all the credit in the world for what both DLH and ROY JONES JR. have done for themselves. Personally I had no intentions on watching the Jones Jr. fight ' cause I had predicted like everybody else did that it was gonna be a walk in the park for Roy Jones Jr. . Now I'm pissed that I missed it, I was eating out at some Bar & Grill and saw the k.o. highlight on ESPN, and I thought to myself "Boy, when Roy gets Ko'd he really gets Knocked The F**k Out". I do have a question though, obviously Roy isn't the same fighter he once was, but would you say after seeing this last fight of his, how much of his speed is gone and would any of you still consider him as one of the quickest fighters out there? Did Johnson look faster than Roy?

garrett, you gotta chill out dude. I think you built RJ up to be more than he actually is/was. I'm a big RJ fan too, but RJ doesn't and didn't define boxing. He had as many skeptics as any other fighters out there and his level of competition was not great over the years.

IMO, his decline is a combination of age, lack of motiviation, lack of quality opponents over the years, and a major mind **** by Tarver. He also believed in his mind that he was superman and nothing bad can happen to him.

Also, IMO, he doesn't have the character qualities of a true champion "great"...A true-champion recognizes their flaws and works to improve them. RJ two biggest weapons were ego and physical speed/reflexes. He relied on both until one was shattered by a Tarver KO and the other abandoned him with age. I think a true champion would have used the talent he had as tools to develop great boxing skills and defense. Why didn't he do this? Because his ego told him he didn't need to.

Instead, he used his two weapons as the foundation for his success, and when they were gone, the RJ we knew was gone. Had he developed better boxing skills and a better defense, he would have seen both KO punches and been better prepared. In both KO's, he had his hands down, and against Johnson, he was moving straight back! Two of the biggest no-no's in the sport! Even an unmotivated, out of shape, aging "true-champion" would have remembered basic boxing skills!
