  • Where have all the tough guys gone

It seems that back in the 40's and 50's there were fighters everywhere. Kids grew up with there dads showing them a thing or two about the manly art. Highschools instructed about the proper ways of self defense and well, kids were tougher back then. What is it, in todays society that makes parents believe that teaching a young kid or young man to defend himself is so wrong. Today, instead of any thing physical, it seems that kids are pampered and given television video games to pass there time. There are tough kids out there, many I am sure. But nothing close to the yester-years. The people running in the gangs are tough, I am sure, but there is no honor in that life unless your goals are to be a street thug. So where is the honorable young man with the tougness, with the grit and heart of a champion. Being raised on computers, video games, fast food and pampering, todays youth are just simply no longer tough. Where have all of the tough guys gone.............Rockin'

It is wrong, in my opinion. It's also simple as to why. They stopped doing that for a reason and that is because most kids are just too damned dumb to be trusted with their own skills once they are taught how to fight.

MAYBE, just maybe, it's true what Bones Adams said, "All boxers are *******s, including me." And we have enough *******s in the world without teaching them all how to fight.

Just my two cents. I wish the people that do fight were tougher sometimes but sometimes I am also impressed with their toughness.

They sure ain't British if that's what you are trying to say. Don't come off like a false patriot by insulting other countries. Fact is, we own Britain in boxing.

.....You have a point and I know where your coming from. I think todays generation of parents are closer to their kids than generations of the past and are more caring and attention oriented. My kids have my wife and I with them practically all day long and they get our undivided attention. With that being said, my 4 but soon to be 5 year old son is an animal. He is big, agressive, strong, and pretty indestructible. At times I think he is overly agressive by todays standards and how he is supposed to behave. He doesn't pick on kids but he won't back down and once someone starts with him they better be prepared to finish. Most of his buddies seem to be influenced more by their moms and they are a bunch of *******. His toughest playmate is the girl across the street in fact. If it wasn't for my insistence on him not taking **** and being allowed to be a boy, my wifes influence would probably have him far less agressive and less dominant. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love that he can back down 6 and 7 year old kids that are scared ****less of him and I hope he grows up to be feared and respected but also well liked. Just like a man is supposed to be.

.....Whenever I hear that "Marquis of Queensbury rules" I always think of the John Wayne movie "The Quiet Man". One badass movie if you have never seen it.

No on cares about the past and fringe versions of boxing that are not recognizeable. I am talking boxing in the ring, modern boxing, that everyone knows about and can relate to. In REAL boxing, that ALL countries participate in, America OWNS Britain. When you say there are no tough ones in America, you sound like a clown. Rephrase it if that's not what you meant.

aying Londonders have a better history in London Prize boxing is like saying Americans are better than Brits at American football.

It doesn't matter, Brits don't even do American football on the scale we do it.

These days, it's hard to get tough without risking getting stabbed or shot.
And I don't see anything wrong with kids that are pampered or modernized. Kid's are better off indoors than in the streets. And I never got this "tough" thing. Better to resolve arguments with words than fists. Sure when push comes to shove, you defend yourself, but what's so great about acting tough? Seriously, what?

HUH!?!... No one does American football except Americans?... LOL!...

I really don't wanna sound patronising in saying this But do a little research and find out what the Marquis of Queensberry really is, what the governing of the Marquis of Queensberry rules is.

America Doesn't "own" British Boxing... Quite the contrary.
