Will Mayweather's Left Hook Be Effective Against Pacquiao?

Cotto landed some effective left hooks, he damaged Pacquiao's right ear in the fight but it wasn't enough to really slow him down for than a round. Will Mayweather's defensive stance and left-hook be effective in neutralizing a significant portion of Pacquiao's offense? In this video, a fight fan breaks down the Cotto bout then goes on to briefly analyze a Mayweather match up from about 7:20.. >

No, Mayweather's left hook is nowhere near the level of Cotto's left hook.

Yes but after he throws the right hand, the lead left hooks might not work as well as it has in the past but if he comes back with the hook after throwing his lead right hand, he can catch Pacquiao with it as Pacquiao brings his head back after trying to avoid the right hand.

The right hand is the key I agree, if he makes that punch work he can set up his whole offense around it.

Could also do a jab, straight right, left hook since Floyd also has a good jab.

It can work but he would have to set it up or use it on the inside to the body if he was throwing it as a lead.

You forgot that Cotto will not land any left hook if Pacquiao never showed mercy.

Pacquiao fought Cotto's game to prove that he can fight toe to toe and overpower him. If Pac fought seriously Cotto wouldn't land that left hook.

Pacquiao will counter that left hook of FLoyd. The jab of Pac is just too fast.

            Great Analysis!!

Makes you think how smart both Floyd and Pac are of fighters.

The edge seems to be on Floyd though for this guy, and I dont blame him.

Going to be a bad foken fight when it happens

If and when he does counter Floyds fast hook, then Floyd has the right hand just like this guy said, and i was just checking the Hatton vs Floyd fight and boy did mayweather really timed Hatton with some fast quick lead left hooks. when he woulnt land them then he would either come back with a right or tie hatton up and then push him with his elbow to fire a st8 right.

              Real smart.

Meh. Yeah he'll catch Pacquiao with it. But he's eating something in return. Cotto landed many left hook counters but Manny went through them and landed his rights almost instantly after. His best bet is to work after Manny throws his jab. Can land his hooks, his own jab or straight rights. Although Manny baits and has pretty much tussled with Marquez and Cotto who are excellent counterpunchers, so he'd be able to adjust.

Mayweather wins this if he immobilizes Pacquiao in front of him. If Pacquiao gets in his darting, rotating rythm and disrespects him, Mayweather's toast.

this dude is wrong... if cotto fights sideways with his hand down by his body, then that leaves the left side of cotto's face open for right hooks and pac's jab.... you gotta remember, pac knocked down cotto w/ the right hand...

the shoulder-roll won't work against pac.... it doesn't work against southpaws... judah proved it against floyd... the shoulder-roll didn't work against judah, so floyd used the peekaboo style instead.

I gotta disagree with this dude.

NO... When Pacquiao throws 4 to 6 combinations... Mayweather will be under his shell all the time..
