So you're saying that just because Cotto had to make 145 that's why Pac beat him? Man that's crap. Pacquiao had to go into the fight with his share of distractions like having to deal with the typhoon. How is it Pacquiao's fault that Cotto's corner men and sparring partners suck?

But I do agree that Cotto is like Arum's boy toy. He's like a loyal dog to him that will bite a poochie biscuit. He talked all that **** about Arum not sticking by him after the Margarito fight. And then what does he do? Goes right back and signs with him.

      Mabe.

I'm not going 2 make excuses 4 COTTO. I picked him 2 win the fight. What actually happened was that MANNY Is a machine who comes along 1nce every bluemoon in boxing. EMANUEL STEWERT offered COTTO his services when he found out he was going 2 fight MANNY and he declined. I think it could have only helped his chances last night. He is 2 LOYAL 2 those around him. He had the tools 2 win but J.S. was 2 inexperienced and couldn't make adjustments. His JAB was a thing a BEAUTY when he threw it but for whatever reason, he had a mental lapse and stopped throwing it!! He NEEDS a new trainer but I think E.S. would suit him well. He's his own BOSS @ this point and that's not CUTTING IT!

Cotto started out strong in the first round but he didn't and/or couldn't make the adjustments necessary to win the fight and a lot of that has to fall on santiago. In reality a different trainer wouldn't have changed the final outcome but the fight may have been more competitive. [details]

I agree with you Dave and you just brought a very interesting and something to really think about. Would Cotto buy into obeying and follow the instructions of a new trainer at the fullst?????

As you said, and I agree, Cotto is very strong minded and it doesn't matter who is his trainer, what need to happen 1st is that Cotto need to have complete trust and confidence in that possible new trainer, the kind of trust that he will be capable of following the trainers instruction even if he beleives that the trainer is wrong and that my friend doesn't seems to be Miguel Cotto.
              We will see what happens!!!

Cotto definitely needs a new trainer. I would say Goossen, Beristan, Steward , Roach or Atlas. Either of those guys would be the right fit for him. I even think Kevin Cunningham or Mayweather Sr. could work, simply because Cotto cant fight backing up or moving around. He's a counter puncher who has to be stationary in order to fight Cunningham or Mayweather Sr. could improve that, also Mayweather sr. could probably improve Cotto's defense. Either way he shouldn't fight until maybe June on the eve of the Puerto Rican day parade at the earliest. I also think a fight with the IBF champ Hlastwayao might be the way to go also. After two tough losses Marco Antonio Barrera re-invented himself, with the right trainer Cotto may be able to do the same.

Cotto needs some mental confidence more than anything. He needs to stop backing up from opponents just because they're bigger than him, and learn to clinch like Mosley and bully people in the clinch so he can start coming forward. He's fine until he starts going backward. He needs someone who will emphasize clinching isn't cowardly, it's strategy. And I think his stamina is a mental thing like Jermain Taylor. It's never been a problem when he was dominating his opponent, but when he retreats he has nothing left. He needs to do some running in the mountains and high intensity jump rope like Mayweather and hit the mitts with some fight night speed and power. He has so much talent and he needs people in his corner who won't let it go to waste anymore.

Nah!!!!.......Beristain as a trainer of Cotto???........ I'd like to see Cotto trained by the very best...and that is Freddie Roach!

Cotto could even learn what a "true" training is about by seeing Pacman train for a fight.....

Cotto needs a trainer who can get his conditioning in top shape. I would like to see Goossen train Cotto and get his stamina back to where it used to be. When Cotto fought Judah he was relentless and he was relentless in all his fights before that, but when he fought Mosley and started to box & then started coasting the last few rounds i don't think his stamina and conditioning have looked the same as it once used to. After the Mosley fight Cotto started having stamina issues & it must be down to his training methods.
