Why is Hopkins considered top pound for pound fighter?

The same reason Marvin Hagler was considered the top pound for pound fighter in the world in the 1980's after beating a "lightweight" in Duran, and a "welterweight" in Hearns.

Hopkins hasn't lost since dropping a competitive fight to Jones 11 years ago. He's beaten everyone put in front of him since, and knocking out Felix Trinidad and Oscar Delahoya sounds pretty trivial when you write them off as welterweights.

He's been dominating for 11 years, and is the only fighter to hold all 3 major titles + the WBO.

He deserves the top spot until he loses or retires. The only argument I could see being made soon is if Mayweather knocks out a top 10 pound for pound fighter.

Competitive fight? Uhhh...it is funny that people call that competitive yet have the nerve to say Jones wasn't one of the best fighters ever. Cause that fight was NOT competitive. Sure, Hopkins was still there, but Jones dominated...with his LEFT HAND! Jones was basically one handed since he hurt his right.

Tito and DLH...the fact is they ARE welterweights moving up. Hopkins started his career at 175 and moved down twice. A former light heavyweight beat up a former lightweight and a former welterweight and we're supposed to give him top p4p?

Floyd, on the other hand, has moved up in class. Floyd, at 17-0, beat Genaro Hernandez, definitely no bum. Hernandez' only loss at that point was to Oscar De La Hoya. Floyd fought and beat everybody that would fight him at 130 and 135. Jose Luis Castillo was considered the best 135 lb fighter when Mayweather fought and beat him, twice.

Trinidad has never been considered a top pound for pound fighter. Pound for pound? Come on, Tito wasn't much of a technician, which is usually a requirement for the pound for pound list. And by the time Hopkins fought DLH, who looked terrible and fat against Felix Sturm, DLH wasn't a threat. Hopkins was favored and it was shown why in a relative mismatch.

Hopkins' ONLY opponents worth mentioning since Jones are DLH and Trinidad. Name any others worth a damn. You can't. What? Robert Allen? Hakkar?

Come on, Hakkar was clearly a MUCH worse opponent than Henry Bruseles. Carl Daniels? ohhh, he's ****ing great. A post-Trinidad Joppy? Shiver me tembers, how'd Hopkins beat him?

Okay I'll give you Echols and Glen Johnson. That's 2 actual middleweights in 11 years. Hopkins constantly bull****s everyone. He's a hypocrite. He bitches and bull****s that DLH and Tito and other welters don't come up to fight him and claims that the weight isn't all that much different, that the weight is just an excuse for those welters. Then, sometimes in the very same articles, he'll say he doesn't go up to light heavy or hell at a catch weight of 168 because its too much weight to move up!! That's just bull**** and cowardess.

I won't be all that upset if Winky upsets Tito and Hopkins. I hope Winky does beat Trinidad because I don't think Tito can handle B-hop. Winky would have a better chance. That's a fight Hopkins doesn't want because he knows Winky can actually box him. Vargas would have a better chance than Trinidad against hopkins just because of styles. And yes, I think Hopkins would beat Vargas.

Mayweather did so too. Mayweather did better by moving up to face tougher competition. Freitas never wanted any of Floyd, so Mayweather couldn't just sit around forever if he wanted to move up. If Freitas thought Casamayor was tough, he really would've had too much with Floyd.
