Roy Jones in the heavyweight division?

If Roy Jones defended his belt as a heavyweight, do you did that he could have beaten the fighters that were in the division. ie. Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson or Vitali Klitskco.

No, no, and no again...well he could've beaten Evander Holyfield, but it would be only a matter of time before one of those other guys catch him.

      hmm

If he would have stayed, sure, it would easy to imagine making those big slow guys look foolish and wearing themselves out in the process.

      But Roy didn't stay...decisions, decisions...

Why didn't Roy stay? Well, he wanted Holyfield badly, because he knew he could beat him quite easily and adding Holy to his resume was incredibly tempting...

After that, who knows? There was much Jones-Tyson talk the night of Jones-Tarver II, if Roy would have won supposedly it would have happened. But who knows, I don't think Roy wanted any part of Lennox but perhaps he DID want Vitali...the what ifs in boxing are so intriguing...

Good points. "What-ifs" I think are a part of what makes the sport so interesting. No one will ever really know but it is intriguing to think about.

Lennox & Vitali no way. Their height advantage would be too much. Those 2 guys really know how to use their height advantage. Im not sure if he could have taken Mike Tyson. Tyson is pretty fast himself and his punches would definetly hurt him. Ruiz was a perfect matc for him. Id give it to him against Golota & Byrd though.

He could've beaten Holyfield but as far as the other guys are concerned I don't think so.

Roy Jones left because he knew he was no heavyweight. His frame was too small. Look at how he was knocked out by larger men like Tarver and Johnson who were light heavyweights! Imagine what Tyson's or Tua's left hook would have done to him. Roy Jones was a natural middleweight, and not even a big one.

I'm not knocking the man, just stating the cold hard facts. In fact, it's a testament to his talent that all of those light heavies he toyed with in the past years were much bigger and stronger than he was. He dominated a division of larger men and once even dared to fight a top ranked heavyweight.

Now I'm not saying this is a unique accomplishment, as Mickey Walker, Stanley Ketchel, Gene Tunney, Bob Fitzsimmons, Billy Conn, Tommy Loughran, Georges Carpentier and numerous other smaller men also made the jump to heavyweight, and against better competition than Ruiz, but it is still a commendable feat taking into consideration the era he fought it.

You don't see Hopkins making the jump to even light heavy (hell or even supper middleweight for that matter), and Hopkins is larger than Jones.

Yeah, but that was after Jones ****ed himself by losing all that muscle. Looking at the version of Lewis that "beat" Vitali and was around when Roy was at heavyweight, it is not hard to imagine Roy beating him. Jones was just way too fast compared to th heavyweights and if he had never come back down in weight...he might have had success vs other champs at heavyweight.

I don't agree that Ruiz was made for Jones either...fact is, many people picked Ruiz to beat Jones (50%) on every site I'm a part of, and boxing analysts. Jones was just too fast and good for Ruiz but that doesn't mean Ruiz was "made" for him or that Roy couldn't handle Lewis or Vitali in 2003.
