Sad but true. He is done, he has caused way to much damage to his body over the course of his career. His inactivity and his weight in between fights just doesn't cut it. It's a shame really, he had/has the whole U.K. on his back and could have been much more. I think at this stage he should hang them up or maybe, just maybe have a last farewell fight in the U.K. and retire on a rather better note then that brutal Pacquiao knockout.
I think a Hatton/Marquez match would be a great consolation bracket attraction for 2 hard luck superstars trying to end their careers on a high note. I'd take Hatton over Marquez.
hard luck...? there aint nothing "hard luck" about hatton. Marquez for years had to live behind the shadows of more popular mexican figures and had to change his style to get ANY respect in the casual boxing world. You see all these sigs and praise marquez gets on here? all of this mostly happened post style change (see jimrex jaca). Before that, he was dominating with his wait and see approach and counterpunch style, yet could never find the niche that morales/barrera had. THATS hard luck.
Hatton had everything handed to him, from lineal title shots in his hometown, to a steady diet of aging names and a solid upbringing from the amatuers, while he was knocked out twice, thats not like JMM losing a desicion to PAC many feel he arguably won.
I can still remember his words on the weigh-in night for the Manny P. fight :
He told the british fans:
"You can bet your house that I will win"
"I promise that I won't make you disappointed"
(only to go asleep after the 1st min of the 2nd RD....)
Hatton will prob beat an average fighter or two,but if he gets in a position to fight a champ(today anything can happen)guys comeback from a KO loss and they get a title shot...But anyway,,,my point is that Hatton will lose to the elite fighters.
I wouldn't mind seeing Hatton against Katsidis, JMM, or Juan Diaz.
There are still fights for him out there (1 or 2), he can fight soft hitting Judan Diaz at 140, or Nate Campbell at 140 or even try for a title against Devon Alexander. Will he win? maybe not..but he probably doesn't get KOd again...probably

No way I see that happening but what the hell, Marquez deserves another money fight. Make it England and Hatton can fight a bum afterwards as a retirement fight.
Ricky Hatton has been inactive since the May two-round KO loss to Manny Pacquiao. Hatton has been concentrating on promotional company, Hatton Promotions. In a few interviews, Hatton said that he no longer had the itch or desire to fight again. During the last few weeks, watching some of his fighters win - and getting a huge reaction during a few off-boxing events - have changed his mind. Hatton now says the itch to fight again is back. He will consider a ring return in 2010. [details]
