Haye Outpoints Valuev in Tedious Fashion, Snatches Title

Kind of like Floyd vs Baldomir. Which was a pretty bad fight in its own right. He threw fewer punches partly because his hand was injured and partly because of the size and reach discrepancy. Few people (i.e. only extreme haters) would **** on Floyd if he fought defensively against a far bigger and stronger fighter than himself who had a huge reach advantage over him. The reason he gets so much criticism for his defensiveness is that he fights defensively even when he's completely dominating, and even against smaller opponents.
I also don't understand those who say it was totally boring. I thought there was a fascination in seeing how he would be able to dodge Valuev's attacks, a bit like watching a matador in a bullfight. And all of the hard, clean punches that were landed by anyone were landed by Haye.
I agree it wasn't a performance to set the world alight, but taking into account his injured hand, I think it was pretty good.
PS - why have you changed your screen name, just out of interest? Did you get bored with the old one?
I dunno, i just wanted to change it up.Comment

If Floyd fought some one with two or three inches on him in height and reach which he has not he wouldnt throw as many punches, obviously against a small dude like marquez he can throw loads, and when haye fought other fighters more his size he threw a lot more. Haye was fighting someone with 6inches or more in both reach and height on him, If floyd fights someone with considerable advantages then u can compare, floyds biggest disavantage was De La Hoya with his 1 inch reach and 1 inch height advantage, which is not really a great amount and by the way Floyd had two inches on Corales's ReachI definetly wouldnt say Haye took anymore risks than Floyd in that fight. If anything he played it safer and threw 1/10th of the punches. Sure the opponents probably presented different risks.....in fact I dont like the comparison at all. But Haye was the one not opening up.Last edited by steeluv; 11-08-2009, 07:59 PM.Comment

I enjoyed the fight, it was very chess-match-esque. Would've been nice had haye not injured his right hand early, would have changed the fight completely i think, he'd have either A) gone for the ko and got it, or B) Gone for the KO, slipped up and got KO'd or C) done the same thing
I thought it was fun, i was suprised at how fast valuev's jab is, its not lightening quick but dudes got huge reach and gets that jab out there at a repectable speed.Comment
