It was one of the most watched sports on the planet. Jack Dempsey vs. Gene Tunney had 120,000 people in attendance.
Two of today's best boxers (ie competing in the open category) took up the sport later in life and still became champions.
I struggle to believe anyone in past eras could do that. To be honest, it's a bit of an embarrassment to the current depth in the sport.

There was a time when boxers didn't even know how to throw combinations it was all one shot at a time. Think it was pre 1930s
