Also when it was created there was no real reason for it. Larry Holmes was champion and was weighing around 210-215lb at around the time the division was created, imo it was just to get more sanctioning money for the governing bodys. Spinks weight was below 200lb when he beat Holems Spinks also went on to beat Cooney.

The problem is there are not actually that many good fighters above 220lb outside Wlad and Vitali almost all the 220+ heavyweights could come in at around the cruiserweight limit but are just fat. Adamek and Chambers both beat men much bigger than them self’s and both could come in at around 195lb. I say either like you say reduce the cruiserweight limit to 190lb or scrap it completely. After all most cruiserweight champions moves up to heavyweight at some point.
Well fighters of equal or comparable ability with such a weight disparity shouldn't compete I should say. The whole point in the creation of weight classes was with fair competition in mind. Take Wlad/Byrd, I am a Wlad fan but have a hard time giving him too much credit for those wins. His size and reach played a huge factor I think, nothing Byrd would have been able to do but then again he didn't have to fight at HW if he didn't want to.
Maybe if some how the CW division can catch the interest of fans making it more financially viable for fighters to stay there it would solve the problem without weight readjustments. IDK why no one cares about it though?

Generally speaking when we have fighters of equal or near equal ability, and the weight disparity is too great the larger man will win. There will always be examples of variation if you do some research. It was created to ensure as fair comp as possible and we still really don't always get it.

Yeah i do like cruiserweight division it’s had some amazing fights over the past few years. I think a simple rename to Junior Heavyweight might help market it a bit better maybe.

You maybe right, Cruiserweight sounds a bit obscure and casual fans are thinking wtf is a Cruiser?....Jr. HW is more straight forward and you know what your getting. There have been many entertaining fights at 200 especially on FNF, Nwodo/Wilson comes to mind as does Nwodo/Godfrey. Too bad Nwodo was on the losing end of the stoppages though.
