I don't mind someone countering and potshotting their opponents, but what I don't like is seeing someone with 1/3rd the work rate of his opponents who lands 15% fewer shots, win a decision because they spent the entire fight backpedaling and running, only throwing when they had to. That, in a nutshell is Mayweather. Not saying he doesn't have incredible talent (he does), or that he woudn't be able to fight without running (he could), only that he doesn't give a rat's ass about boxing fans. All he cares about is the payday. And that's fine, but he'll have to do it without any contributions from me at all. I don't swim in that ****.
Why does everyone dislike "potshotters"?

Roy Jones Jr was had excitement and style in the ring took risks cause he was so good, Floyd seems to leave nothing to chance. Dirrell cant be even mentioned with those two fighters.Comment

By definition a "pot-shotter" is someone who with a low punch-output ie. someone who doesn't let his hands go or throw combinations. I have no problems with slick boxers or "movers" as they get labled, but they still have to generate some offense. Ali was a slick boxer but if you watch his prime fights you'll see him actually throwing a good volume of punches. It's the same with Wilfred Benitez, Pernell Whitaker and plenty of other "slick" fighters: They let their hands go. Being a mover and being great defensively doesn't mean you have to stop throwing punches.
That's the beef fans have with potshotters: They're using defense as an excuse not to throw punches and it's a bad excuse as guys like Ali have shown. Fans expect at very least a solid workrate and if the fighters aren't throwing punches it's boring. To my mind a fighter who is a potshotter is unwatchable because NOTHING IS HAPPENING in their fights. Ali and Benitez were VERY watchable fighters but Jimmy Young and Hector Camacho were the global cure for insomnia.

it all depends on ur personal preference. i appreciate both stlyes. potshotters tend to be more accurate cause of there limited punch output they hav to make everypunch count. i like combinations punchers that mix up there attack, a 1,2 up top then left hook to the body then finish off the combo upstairs, stuff like thatComment
