Can't remember correctly. Wasn't it HBO who didn't want to put enough money to make Clottey vs. Paul Williams?

Nah, he's quicker than you think and his defense is underrated.

He did it once, he can do it again. Plus Sergio is prone to getting into slugfests cuz' of his latin passion, lol...if he slugs it out w/ Tony, he's getting ktfo.

Spinks is getting old, and is more flat footed now. Williams would be touching him all night (as much as you can against a guy who fights like he is made of glass).

Martinez shows really good movement, and knows how to time punches, so he can get inside. He showed that against an eh fighter named Russell Jordan. Jordan was very tall and had a good jab, but Martinez broke through that like it was nothing.

Here's my list of the people I want Williams to fight:

        1. Dzinziruk
        2. Martinez
        3. Pavlik
        4. Sturm
        5. Santos-Foreman winner
        6. Spinks
        7. Sylvester

I left welterweights off the list, because it does seem like he is done with that weight.
First and Foremost, I have not once called Martinez trash, or I haven’t called him a bad fighter. I think he is a good fighter. But I think he would get CLIP by Paul Williams.

I just honestly believe Martinez is another Vivian Harris. Allot of potential
But too much hype for achieving virtually nothing.and getting to much credit for **** he havent earned.

Everybody used to think Vivian Harris was the ****, why because he was just knocking mutha****a's out. And his style seems to signal he would be a tough fight for any fighter.

And guess what, Vivian started believing that ****, and got exposed when he started stepping up his competition.
And I see the same thing with Martinez.
Dude is calling Clottey, Pavlik, and Williams..

But who has he beat that would signal he could beat these guys?

The guy looks like he has talent. But looks can be deceiving when you get a closer look. And I look close at Martinez. And I don’t see him giving a Williams a tougher fight than Spinks.

Spinks has a resume of styles I can point to, to tell you why he would be a better for Williams than Martinez.

With Spinks I know I am getting an proven elite boxer, who can moved and give all type of angles at the top level of competition.

BUt with Martinez, I cant...I rather see Paul fight a Proven Vet..
        then a unproven hypejob.

I would be rooting for Margarito. But, right now I don't think he can. I don't know what Margarito has left after the punishment that he took from Mosley and Cotto. Is no way of knowing if he still the same. While Martinez is in top form and a very underrated fighter. Martinez right now is at his best. Can't say the same about Margarito.

Now if you are talking about Margarito at his best against Martinez at his best at 154. I think Martinez still wins a very very close fight. Margarito was always better at 147 than 154.

            Walt,

Can we table the silly names and childish insults and discuss this like gentlemen?

If you can do that, here goes:

Williams has asked Shane for a fight several times this year. Shane is not a PPV fighter, and neither is Williams. So, it makes sense to pair them together on a WCB card. The license fee would be reasonable. Mosley is a more recognized name than Martinez, thus would arouse network interest.

Mayweather has said that he is not interested in a Shane fight. That may change if 3-4 things happen, but for now it's not. Floyd prefers to wait until Nov 15 @ 1am to see what his options are.

Most likely, Floyd will go for the Firepower winner. In the Spring. That means that he would be facing Shane next fall. At the earliest.

Shane has been inactive for almost all of 2009. Williams wants to fight Shane. Shane recently said that he wants good fights. This is a good fight.

...and that is why I feel Sergio would beat Tony. He has looked ordinary-ish at JMW.

Good speculation Horus, I'm glad you have a feeling about Martinez and Harris. You do know they aren't the same at all right? Martinez is a veteran that has been around for a long time and has developed a less risky boxing style that is very difficult to figure out. He also doesn't take anywhere near as much punishment in his fights as Harris did...

Paul Williams hasn't proven much either. Lost to Quintana, and beat a Winky Wright that hadn't fought in over 2 years.
Why does Martinez need to prove so much just to fight another young guy who hasn't proven much himself?

Cory Spinks just sounds like an easy way out to avoid the better and tougher Martinez.

Thats the only thing I worry about when it comes to him. Prime for prime though, Tony can destroy pretty much anyone.

I agree totally on both points. I for one am pretty tired of Pavlik's excuses, he definitely lost a fan in me.
