from 2014 to 2016 wardy fough ONE time he had promotional problems and that one time he fought was at 175

so if he wanted ggg and ggg was ready and willing to fight him instead of collecting the betls and 160 he would have had to go back down to 168 i presume

HBO laid out the whole thing.

Key Aspects of the Ward vs. GGG "HBO Era" The Weight Class Impasse: The primary obstacle was weight. Ward was the king of the super middleweight (168 lbs) division and later moved to light heavyweight (175 lbs), while GGG was a dominant middleweight (160 lbs) looking to unify his division.
Negotiation Breakdown: In late 2015, Ward's team (Roc Nation) made a formal offer for a catchweight fight (around 164 lbs). GGG's team (Tom Loeffler) turned it down, citing that Ward had not fought in over a year and that they were focused on unifying the 160-lb division against opponents like David Lemieux and eventually Canelo Álvarez.

Ultimately, the fight never happened because Ward moved up to 175 lbs to fight Sergey Kovalev, and GGG remained at 160 lbs to pursue other mega-fights.

Ward didn't want it cause "muh shoulder" while golovkin said yes at the HBO meeting. It was pretty much confirmed when COward didn't respond to that.

Muh shoulder? You’re thinking Lomachenko vs Mikey Garcia.

That's not what happened. Ward's offer was for a fight at 168lb, after an interim tune up fight for Ward. GGG's team countered that by saying they would fight Ward at 164lb. "50/50 money and weight"

Golovkin ducked Ward. It’s clear from what SOG says in the video.
